Back to the 80s Sunday Is No Longer

I am not sure if anyone was aware, but WOGL just removed Back to the 80s Sunday. They have had this for about 2 1/2 years. If I recall correctly, I Love the 70s Sunday was on for at least a decade. I wonder if this means they are going to play more 70s or 90s.
I would love to hear more 90s and less 70s. I think an 80s and 90s station focused on 50% r&b/rap and 50% rock would be the way to go.
Any ideas?

They're practically an All '80s station at this point. Regardless of the day of the week, when you turn on 98.1, you're almost always going to get an '80s song. It seems redundant to have a day of themed programming which is pretty much based on the regular format. Basically, all they were having to do is remove the 1 or 2 songs per hour that came from the '70s or '90s. Doesn't seem worth the effort.

I'm sure the next time the make substantial changes to the library, it will be to add more titles from the late '80s and early '90s. It would make zero sense to backtrack into the '70s. If anyone wants to hear '70s on terrestrial radio, they may as well tune to 106.1 (also a cure for insomnia).

Soft 70s lives on the Breeze, some of the rock 70s still lives on WMGK. Heck, now and then a 70s tune crops up on 101. I’d think it’s unlikely the WOGL audience is clamoring for more 70s, so yeah, it doesn’t seem like they’d be dipping back into that well. :)

In the form of Billy Joel on 101!

Do not forget about Ben too!

In regards to 101, when Entercom took over the station and flipped it back to B101, they started playing the 70's again, but were only playing stuff from Billy Joel and early Michael Jackson tunes so far. None of the sleepy stuff, though. When they were under the "More FM" branding, it's mostly 80's-NOW product. I think the '70s part on B101 may probably have to be removed(again) as the upper demo is beginning to age out and leave the stuff to The Breeze or WOGL. No millennial who is currently or just about to enter the workforce wants to be snoozed by "sleepy" old music!

well, if 'OGL goes the way of its legendary NYC sister....I expect them to go primarily late 80's/early 90's (with the occasional track from Santana - with anybody)

I think OGl is accelerating its move towards being primary a late 80's / early 90's music format. Only a few months ago there was a thread where we listed 90's songs you heard on OGL, because they sprinkled them in so lite, but i'm hearing more and more 90's songs put in the rotation. Not just pop music either. Heard red hot chili peppers - under the bridge yesterday, which is an alternative song.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the "nobody plays more 80's" tagline is going away right away. They're still a mostly 80's station, but a year from now I suspect the nobody plays more 80's line will be replaced with nobody plays more 80's & 90's. For now the extra 90's music is probably just replacing the last of the 70's music.

I looked at the spins on WOGL.

900 weekly spins are in 1981 to 1985.

400 are 1986 and newer, and 500 are pre-1981.

I see no indication of any higher concentration of 90's songs... only 135 spins out of 1800 (rounded) weekly spins are 90's songs.
