WBTP HD2 now Alternative (Alt 95-7 HD2)

Not sure when it launched....Looks like IHeart is preparing for whatever may happen to WSUN if/when it is spun off from the Cox cluster.

If 97X goes away, I predict another IHeart translator shuffle...or a Rumba flip.

Thanks for the tip. The HD2 was until most-recently an Urban AC format, e.g. "All My Jams".

Definitely a +1 for pending Rumba flip. It just seems to be waiting for some justification to execute.

Had a chance to sample 95.7 HD2, its a refreshing change from 97X which get repetitive with over played songs long past the the lifespans of the charts rankings.
Time will tell if 95.7 HD2 has a large or tight playlist and is actually listenable to for over an hour.
Jury is still out for this newcomer.

Also new: WDAE now appears on 95.7 HD3

It seems very similar in style to the old Alt 100.3 (more 80's-90's gold, and more variety than 97X), and a similar mix as Orlando's FM 101.9. Of course, it's also standard fare from the iHeart mothership with canned liners, voicetracking and zero local flavor....about what one would expect from an HD2.

An interesting note: My receiver displays "Alt 95.3" between songs. A quick search reveals Alt 95.3 in Raleigh, NC with a simultaneous playlist. https://alt953.iheart.com/

I wonder if the syndicated Woody Show will also appear on 95.7 HD2.

Of course....most (if not all) of the iHeart "Alts" share iHeart's national "Alt Radio" feed, so....

It's been "ALT" on 95.7 HD2 for well over a year, maybe longer. The reason "Alt" is on an HD2 in the market is it prevents any other broadcaster from using the name. Entercom tried to use "ALT" in Orlando for 101.9 but had to switch because iHeart's WJRR HD3 is "ALT" for this same reason. Entercom quickly changed their station name to the boring sounding "FM 101.9". The same reasoning is also why "Throwback" lives on 100.7 HD2 and "The Breeze" exists on 100.7 HD3. Although Throwback may have it's own playlist, The Breeze and ALT both are over the air simulcasts of iHeart's digital "ALT" and "Breeze" stations that stream.

The typo on the RDS is most likely that. A typo as someone may have been confused with 95.3 FM (WDAE translator), that also airs on 95.7 HD3.

Most likely there are no plans to flip Rumba 106.5. The station performs surprisingly well in the Tampa metro with it's Manatee County signal and can also be heard on 102.9 and 103.5 HD2.

Rumba is the #1 18-49 and 25-54 station in Orlando, and is the #1 biller in the whole market.

The chances that it might change format are a large negative number.

The MSA is approaching 40% Hispanic, and growing as the Puerto Rican migration continues.

The "Alt" format is not a "feed". It is a set of format workparts that are assembled on locally and integrated with any local ads, PSA's and other content. The playlist can be adapted to the market if they want to dedicate staff time to it.

I guess "template" might be a better word. All I know is the playlist on WBTP HD2 was, this morning, song for song, simultaneously, the same as the "Alt Radio" stream on the iHeart app. Definitely not customized in this case (other than some canned liners, non-localized voicetracking and station I.D's inserted).

For the rest of the day the feed perfectly matched iHeart's Alt 95.3 Raleigh, NC.

Surprised it's been on over a year, though. Could swear it was still "All My Jams" fairly recently.

While Rumba is huge in Orlando, Tampa's version is still barely a blip in Tampa Bay (a whopping 1.1 12+), so I'm not ruling out a flip at this point if WSUN is spun off (and flips).

Tampa's MSA is much different than Orlando's as well (23.2% Hispanic).

But WRUB is a Sarasota station that barely puts a signal over the southern part of the Tampa MSA. That it gets a 1.2 is a miracle.

Like I said earlier, none of the main iHeart FMs are flipping to some alternative format if 97X goes away. 98Rock is pretty much #1 across the board in the target demo of men 25-54 and there is no reason to try and grab the 97X audience. It's young and not as big of a revenue producer. And like David just said in the last post, it's VERY impressive what 106.5 is doing with that signal. Don't pay any attention to the 6+ numbers. They are completely inaccurate to what is actually going on with each station's actual target.
