K14RK/ channel 38

I can't tell if it's an inability to receive the station or a problem on their end, but I have trouble keeping a consistent signal on the channel 38 subs. Retro/38.6 was fine this afternoon, then digital break up after 7, and now gone, along with all of the other 38 options. This is not the first time they all disappeared. Is it me or is it the station?

From your description, you are near the digital cliff on Rf 38. You probably need more
antenna. An indoor antenna is unlikely to provide consistent reception.

Sad to say, the content on the station is quickly making it irrelevant anyway. Retro TV and Rev'n are about the only subchannels worth anything to me (I don't speak Spanish) and those are even marginal. Removing the videos from 38.3 was a mistake, albeit one I could see coming, as the channel was devoting more and more time to infomercials. The car credit feed on 38.5 is a joke, and LitLife TV on 38.2 is scraping the very bottom of the barrel (someone asked me if they were using virtual channel 4.20 for that!)

It's too bad. They're one of a few LPTV stations with a local presence, and the only one that's not class A (and required to have a local presence). They could do better.

KPHE has (had?) a local program on 44.1 not long ago. I don't know if they still have it. These LPTV owners want to lease channels out instead of put some thought into programming. That's why you see things like "Lit Life TV" and the now-defunct "Connect To Your City," which aren't (weren't) operated by professional broadcasters at all. Now 44.5 and 44.6 are showing the same thing. How much money would they be losing if they were running the "Rip 'N Read" NewsNet service instead?

I agree 100% with both you and dhett. I've said before that neither Quinones (owner) or Herrera (EP) have the business acumen or ambition to create a quality channel (even within the limitations the station has). It can be done, they just don't want to do it. Plain and simple.

Their main objective has always been to pimp their Pitic restaurant first, and an assortment of used car lots second. It's been that way for YEARS. They should've just opened an ad agency with the direction they've taken. Why or how they even have a "broadcast station" is beyond me!

As usual, they continue to do nothing with their "station", even after a decade on-the-air! Unreal. :(

They were the last OTA station to carry Diamondbacks games, in 2008, when they were still in analog. The broadcasts were in Spanish, but they were at least available. The main English-language broadcasts were dumped by KTVK in favor of FSN Arizona in 2007.

I completely agree that removing the video channel was indeed a BIG mistake. However, they weren't willing to make it a viable channel, when they definitely could have.

It was likely the most "popular" channel in its history, yet they wouldn't put any work into it. That makes perfect business sense, don't you think?

A dead giveaway of the station's laziness was their constant airing of You Tube-downloaded...… flashmob videos. Really??? That was THE worst decision they made, and arguably the most embarrassing. Frankly, they aim to go below tier 1, and that's being kind!

I remember that. They had a daily Spanish-language talk show called "El Break" or something like that. With a company like Lotus behind it, I would've expected them to put some effort in their TV property. It appears that their website hasn't been updated in more than a year, as the subchannel listing is wrong. They have a salesperson in Phoenix, don't they? They don't think they can sell any ads on diginets not carried here, or don't they want to try? I know they think cable carriage is critical for that, despite the cord-cutting phenomenon.

Then again, Lotus shuttered their Houston Spanish LPTV not too long ago.

Eric Stein, I stand corrected. KPHE-LD does have a local studio, at 24th St. and University, and it looks like a real studio, not the storefronts that K14RK-D and KPDF-CD operate from.

KPHE no longer has local programming. Its lineup consists of:
44.1 - LATV
44.2 - Telemax
44.3 - OnTV4U infomercials
44.4 - JTV
44.5 - ONTV4U infomercials
44.6 - ONTV4U infomercials

The aforementioned CTYC (Connect To Your City) was from a local group, but the content was not in the least bit local, and it sure didn't last very long.

Funny thing, since Ch. 38 became Ch. 14, the reception has arguably gotten worse than the so-called "content". That's extremely tough to do! Yep, they're really setting the bar "high", aren't they? No pun intended by the way.

Hmmm.... I wonder how many cars (and loans...:() 'ol Quinones and Herrera have sold since their Used Car Lot channel (38.5) debuted in July? I'm sorry guys, that's a terrible idea for a sub-channel. :(...

Oh my. Quiñones and Herrera have found a way to go even lower than CarCredit TV. Goodbye, Rev'n on channel 38.7; hello PAWS. Billed as an animal lovers channel, so far, it has featured nothing but videos of squirrels. I wish I were exaggerating.

....wow, just.....WOW! It never ceases to amaze me how little they care about quality. One thing is certain, they don't want a broadcast channel. They want an infomercial channel because that requires very little, if any, work. Unbelievable. :(

It's obvious that they don't take ANY pride in their station, which is unfortunate. Frankly, they don't deserve to be successful, let alone deserve a place in the broadcasting business....

Interestingly, the Used Car Lot Channel (38.5) hasn't been on the air all week. Its been blacked out since Tuesday 10/1.

Perhaps Quinones and Herrera have read this board and are ashamed of their "product". If not, they should be....:(

Next, they need to black out the Weed and Squirel channels. With maximum effort and hard work, they might be able to revive what's left of their..... "station".

:(

I highly doubt a couple of guys doing well enough to own some car lots and tv station(s) care what some hobbyists think on a message board

Thanks for responding. To clarify SRG, they don't "own" the car lots. They help the dealers sell the cars OTA, and likely get a cut from that and the loan sales. I'm being facetious with the title of the channel, if you didn't notice.

Also, it's only one local LPTV channel. Frankly, the way they approach business, I wouldn't be surprised if it operates on a loss just to get a tax write-off.

Regardless of our differing opinions, one thing is certain: delivering quality programming is not a priority for them. Just saying.

OK - a little more detail on the "squirrel" channel. PAWS is intended to be left on during the day to keep home alone pets company. Uh huh. So rather than Fido barking at the mailman and whomever happens to walk by, he can now spend all day barking at the squirrels on the TV. Big improvement, I'd say.

Translation: Quinones and Herrera are more than happy and willing to continue insulting their viewers' intelligence--- at any cost. Unreal.

It's gone. The squirrels have moved from 38.7 to 38.5 and 38.7 is once again Rev'n, so a little good news.
