Future of TNT/TBS?

But will TNT stay mostly drama and TBS mostly comedy? Both have Finding the Cure, and they both carry a lot of the same movies.

Why would they downgrade 2 channels that are carried in just about every home. They will not pull programming just to benefit HBO.

I think ALL Time Warner networks will be used to promote the streaming service, and I do think we will see less original programming FIRST on TBS and TNT. But, they won't completely cannibalize that revenue stream until it dries up.

I could see them doing something similar to what CBS does with All Access. Perhaps you'd see the first episode of a series on TNT or TBS, and then have it be used to promote "see the rest on HBO Max". I could also see some original programming (after it ages) be shown on TNT or TBS (again to promote the service).

That said, TNT just added a new wrestling franchise to the roster, and I could see both networks being used more for live events.

With Warner Media's upcoming streaming service HBO Max due to launch what's the future of scripted programming on these channels? As pointed out in this article TNT's scripted drama is getting slim and more focus is on HBO Max now. How will they decide what airs on linear/streaming? Most of the shows announced for HBO Max would suite TNT/TBS. Will linear get the cheap leftovers?

Tnt and TBS are almost better know for their sports and award shows coverage than original programming lately.

Not that I am saying it will go away, but I’m not seeing how carrying some random wrestling program is indicative of a channel’s long-term prognosis.

It is indicative in the sense that they are still putting money into developing long term programming and still invested in it for the long term or so it seems.

How bout we get rid of 2 of TNT/TBS's sister networks HLN and TRU-TV? Outside of several hours of news coverage daily HLN is nothing but a channel that show True Crime documentaries. We got too many networks that show that - Oxygen, Investigation Discovery, and Escape to name a few. TRU-TV is nothing but a reality TV wasteland.

Here's a wild idea. Take one of the two networks I mentioned above either HLN or TRU-TV and make it Adult Swim? Have it air 24/7. If they were to have a 24/7 Adult Swim network, replace the block on Cartoon Network with a retro block like Viacom does on Teen Nick.

They're working on that. They proposed turning one of those channels into a PGA network if they can get the rights:

https://www.wsj.com/articles/golfs-p...le-11567076401

"A number of deep-pocketed content providers are lining up to bid for the PGA Tour's next media-rights package, and AT&T's WarnerMedia unit is reportedly ready to rebrand its HLN or TruTV networks to secure a deal. ESPN, Fox and Amazon are also interested in competing when the PGA's current contract with Comcast's Golf Channel and NBC, as well as Viacom's CBS, expires in a couple of years."

Count me in as another one that wouldn't mind 'HLN' going away. The name means NOTHING anymore, and I can see why because of the way we can access news online. Why not call it 'FFC' and get it over with? The 'Forensic Files Channel'.
I think TNT and TBS will be around for many more years to come. With MLB on TBS, NBA on TNT, and March Madness on both, they make up a lot of the profits. We'll see how the wrestling goes for TNT as time goes on. They may not be like the glory days of Superstation WTBS and TNT's huge selection of old movies, but it's $$$ in the bank.

I could see possibly moving some of the comedy shows like Impractical Jokers on TruTV to TBS and possibly make it into another channel of some sort. Hopefully nor more real crime shows though.

Pretty sure they stopped producing new episodes of forensic files after their narrator Peter Thomas died. Forensic files fills up most of the the night block when ratings are low for hln anyway. During the day they have a lot of good programming like morning express and also Dr. Drew and Nancy Grace use to have really popular shows on HLN. Thinking they might look to do this again get a night show with another host. As for TRU TV they use to have some really good shows like hardcore pawn and operation repo. Will say that they play too many reruns of impractical jokers which is kind of a stupid show. I think HLN has more potential for success than trutv.
