QVC no longer live 24/7

I don't know when it happened, but QVC is no longer live 24/7. They're now previously recorded 2AM-7AM Eastern just like sister network HSN. The overseas QVC Networks aren't live 24/7 either. Like HSN they are showing the 12AM Eastern show between those hours. I understand they most likely did this to cut expenses, but it makes me sad because new on-air talent got their start during overnights hours. Some of course moved into more prime hours.

So with this change none of the 3 major shopping channels are live overnights. ShopHQ (Formerly Evine) has been running "best-of" programming 1 or 2AM-8AM Eastern for as long as I can remember.

Makes me miss the long defunct Shop-at-Home Network with their Coin Vault, Sports Memorabilia, and Beanie Baby Shows during the overnights.

JTV (which I have first hand knowledge of) is generally recorded from 2-6am Eastern but during weekdays it is still new. Weekends will have a rerun with the disclaimer that some items may no longer be available.

You know how we've been talking about how ratings have been dropping at ESPN, MTV, and all the other cable networks due to cord cutting, Netflix, and other options? Viewership is also down at the shopping channels. One of the reasons is the immediacy of Amazon. You don't have to wait for a certain product to come up on HSN or QVC. Just search it on Amazon or MSN or any browser, and you can find similar discounts without watching the tiresome sales pitch.

These days, I imagine a fair amount of their business comes from their web site rather than the TV channel. Last year, I ordered something from HSN's website, and now I get almost daily e-mails from them on their latest deals.

Probably Ebay, and Amazon is killing off the business model of QVC and HSN . I won't be shocked if there are stories saying that QVC and HSN are facing issues similar to the former Sears and former Kmart.
