WTVN tower crumples in storm

Why does my gut say no? Lol.
Fine with me. I continue to enjoy the vastly superior night signal in my area to the usual directional pattern.

They have been getting pretty good evening ratings since the tower fell and been non-directional. I wonder if they will apply to go to that all the time once the original facility is repaired?

One might think that would be a signal (no pun intended) to WTVN to keep this current pattern, although that probably isn't as easy as it sounds.
All told, though, good service to the entire metro probably would be better over the long run than the usual pattern that makes them sound like crap in Grove City and Pickerington at night but peels paint in Findlay and Sandusky. I went and finally bought an HD Radio the other day, so once they go back to that licensed night pattern, I'll still be able to hear them loud and clear on 93.3 HD 2 (not to mention finally getting Indians games on the radio again).

Just a question. How does having a new HD radio help you get the Indians' broadcasts? Does 93.3 HD 2 carry the Indians' games (since I heard WTVN had been cutting back on their sports coverage in recent years). Can't you pick up WTAM/1000 out of Cleveland to hear them - at least at night?

93.3 HD2 is the Columbus affiliate for the Indians. It carries WTVN most of the time, but for Indians games, it carries a straight feed of WTAM, complete with commercials and liners. I'm a Cubs fan so by no means is that the reason I got the radio, but it is nice.
WTAM's signal is poor down here daytime and we're in their cancellation zone at night, so some nights it comes in very well and others, it doesn't. Plus, the only other Indians affiliate with a chance of being heard in Columbus, Delaware's WDLR, is blocked on 92.9 by the WVKO translator and has the poor groundwave you'd expect at 1550 on the AM side.

Update. The building permit for the tower was filed under iHeart, not Citicasters, as the zoning request was. iHeart filed for a building permit on 4/22. I haven't been by the site for a couple of weeks, so nothing to report on progress.

That's what I like to hear!

Gotta wonder with the slow progress if that's what they want to achieve. Saves the cost of a tower, the proof of performance, the tucked in coverage. And apparently, no one has complained about them loosening their belt a directionally.

Wondering the same thing. If so, really it's long overdue. And if Kansas City and Philadelphia aren't complaining, let alone anyone else on the frequency, then WTVN should be OK with a better pattern for this market.

We're less than 3 weeks away for the expiration of the latest STA for the fallen tower. Looks like they're not going to make it again.

I'm wondering if this ultimately will just stay as is now. We're at over 18 months, going on 19, since that storm.

I guess we will have to wait until they file the next request for an extension or if they go for an all out modification.

I wonder what happened to that tower that was supposed to deliver the middle part of last October. Must be lost in transit.

Granted another extension till May 28, 2020.
