KFMB on the Block?

Most of the posts here seem to believe iHeart is still in the station acquisition business. I'm not sure that's true.

If some kind of trade could be worked out, they might be a player, but I don't see them spending post-bankruptcy dollars on towers & transmitters.

You're right; I thought I recalled reading the station went more Hot AC after the name change.

However, after listening online, I concur that the station's current sound could best be described as rock-leaning Variety Hits.

For those who reside in region or are otherwise highly familiar with the station, I'd be curious to know what has caused the slide in ratings over the past several ratings surveys.

I had no idea that KFMB was originally on 540. It looks like they moved to 760 around 1966,and did not go to 50kw night until around 1992, from the info I saw in old Broadcasting Yearbooks.
The 760 site near the freeway interchange I saw years ago, when that road was built did KFMB have to move any towers ? It looks like they did ?
Also when they were on 540 did they operate from that site near freeway they have today ? If they did were towers taller ? If not at that location ,where was 540 site, how many towers did 540 operate with ?

KFMB, even at 10,000 watts in the 1970s and 80s, used to throw a big, strong signal into Northern California at night. I was listening to them in Ukiah in 1976/77 every night---and into the 80s, they sounded strong going over Donner Pass.

As for the particulars of the transmitter site, as usual, Scott Fybush is the man: https://www.fybush.com/site-20140131/

In July 2017, Midwest TV (previous owner of KFMB) filed a minor modification to reduce night power from 50kw to 10kw. About a week and a half later, they withdrew the request. Some six months after that, the sale to TEGNA was announced.

Imagine if Phoenix ever got a 50,000 watt night-time low dial position station? That would be a game changer! KTAR or KFYI at 50,000 watts? Yikes!!
