KOWB 1290 Laramie, WY OFF The air

KOWB 1290 Laramie, WY is off the air tonight and will likely bee off air through at least Thursday morning if not possibly all day and potentially through the weekend. Might wanna check 1290 if KOWB is normally a hindrance for you.

With KOWB off, I have logged:

KMMM 1290 Pratt, KS 5kw/4 towers, 495 miles

KWFS 1290 Wichita Falls, TX 5kw Non D, 558 miles (KWFS, like KOWB is a Townsquare station)

Those two were right at/before sunset.

I also have a weak KAZA Gilroy, CA with an STA for 1.25KW non directional days
And a very very weak KAZN Los angeles

Nice going. It's always fun to hear what you can log when locals are off the air.

Check for KGVO or KUMA - both get out very well. I'd even check for CFRW.

Trust me, i'll be spending alot of time on 1280, 1290, 1300 in the next few days while they work on getting KOWB back on the air

Funny thing... back around 1960 I heard KOWB in Cleveland, OH, when it was on 1340 with 250 watts and was one of my best graveyard channel catches. Later, when they moved and upped the power, I tried to log them on 1290 many a Sunday night / Monday morning on 1290, but never heard a peep from them.

CFRW gets out really well during the day. At night I've only heard them in extreme northern Minnesota and North Dakota. Maybe you can snag them on day pattern around sunrise or sunset.

I heard a BRIEF "TSN Radio" mention on 1290 this morning, but out of the mush real quick and gone.. with no chance to hit record or really have any inclinaiton to hit record since it was a mushy mess on 1290 before sunrise.

That's it! CFRW. They flipped to TSN sports some time ago, after a run as an oldies station. (A space formerly occupied in Winnipeg by 50kw blowtorch CKY before they abandoned 580 and the AM band.) It'll be interesting to see how long CFRW stays on AM. Their stick is located in an area of rapid residential and commercial development southwest of the city. Increasingly valuable real estate.

Got a MUCH better grab of TSN/CFRW Friday night around sunset... one quick fade up.. a few minutes of mush then another decent fade up for a few minutes

for anyone wondering, this is what has been going on at KOWB 1290 and KCGY 95.1

https://kowb1290.com/kowb-kcgy-radio-station-update/

The AM Transmtiter room as I understand was completely destroyed, included transmitter (we werent given specifics, but I work at KLMI and we were told that all but one piece of equipment in the transmitter room for the AM was ruined). The FM stuff is up on a hill farther outside of town. The FM was affected because server equipment for it sits in the am transmitter room

(and for the radio geeks who notice, this is a former Curt Gowdy cluster.. his company put 95.1 on the air)

KOWB came back on sometime between 9am and 5pm Nov. 6th
