FM Frequency of the Week 2018-19-20: 105.7

Up a position as we survey the traditional Class B/C FM frequencies. What do you or did you get on 105.7?

East Tennessee: When I moved to this area in 2010, WIHG, Rockwood (Crossville) had the frequency to itself. Then came the translator windows and part of Knoxville lost them to W289BQ (WCRK (AM)). The rest of Knoxville lost WIHG to W289CU (WKGN-AM) a year or so ago. So, in short, WIHG has to be content with being a Cumberland and Fentress County station, and forget any rimshotting ideas toward Knoxville.

Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio area: Last time I was there 105.7 was fairly clear, with either Hilliard or Indianapolis drifting in. I did catch WZOM, Defiance, Ohio there once.

Retro DX Clip of the week from Bob Hawkins: A quick one from CHSC, St. Catherine's Ohio from 1971: http://46124.info/FM/Canada/ON Saint Catherines 105.7 1971 CHSC.mp3

In the near north Chicago suburbs I get splatter from WCFS licensed to Elmwood Park, Il but transmitting from the Sears (I refuse to call it willis) Tower. WCFS simulcasts WBBM-AM news radio.

What you talkin' about Willis?

Before IBOC, 265 kW WOOD-FM (now WSRW, as WOOD-FM is now 106.9 Muskegon and simulcasting WOOD 1300, which lost service due to their "upgrade" to 20 kW, to protect WRDZ 1300 LaGrange, and WMCS 1290 Greenfield) came in well on a good selectivity receiver in NW Chicago and SE Wisconsin. WOOD AM is a pest in Scandinavia though, and a regular in Alpena and Sudbury.

Crystal Lake, IL....

105.7 is splatter from our local 105.5, which has it's stick about a mile and a half northwest of our city limits.

Mason City, Iowa:
Mostly clean signal from KOKZ/Waterloo

Central KS:
VERY clear signal (transmitter is about 20 miles due NE of my childhood/folks’ house) from KJRL/Herington

Orange County, TX-Mostly KHCB Houston or KYKX Longview, TX depending how the antenna is oriented. At times KVVP Leesville, LA will pop up.

Warminster PA(Philly 'burbs)

Usually an empty frequency here. In tropo, I hear
WCHR-FM from Manahawkin NJ(Ocean County),
WQXA from York PA and WJZ-FM from Baltimore.

Ellensburg WA

Relatively clear KRSE Yakima (Classic Rock), their xmitter is at a different place than the other Yakima stations.

In Yakima, KRSE was off one day in 2014, and I was able to get bits and pieces of KZBD Spokane (Top 40) and KQAK Bend OR (Classic Hits). Never heard since.

Lexington, KY:

A weak WHBE, Eminence, which is a rimshot ESPN Radio station for the Louisville area (also reaching Frankfort with a decent signal).

Picayune, MS:
K289AM Timberlane, LA (Spanish Tropical) translator of WFNO
less commonly WAKH Mccomb, MS (country)
KHCB Houston, TX was heard one time.

Reynoldsburg, Ohio ...
Local rocker WXZX, which is in its second incarnation as "The Brew." 2,400 watts from downtown Columbus and its signal reaches roughly 50 miles in any given direction.
It has a varied if not colorful history over the past 30 years, ranging from hot AC in the early 90s to 70s rock to country and back to rock and, more recently, a few years as sports talker "105.7 The Zone." After the sports format, my favorite incarnation was the old "Arrow 105.7," all rock and roll
This thread from several years back predates the sports format but details a lot of the history, including its move from Marysville into Columbus:
