And here is a surprise The Mix and WBBM does not have the #1 and #2 morning shows, I wonder when the last time this has happened. You won't even believe who took #2. Also what is up with Dr. Wayne he until yesterday had a post about the ratings form another site, that he failed to post so the ratings had caught me by surprise.

WGN and WLS-AM moved up a little bit. Maybe AM isn’t dead....yet.

Some of the suburban signals are pulling down fairly impressive numbers - all things considered!

Chicagoans sure love their AC and Hot AC music. The rapid decline of US 99.5 is stunning. This most recent survey has got to be an all-time record low performance for that station.

WGCI certainly isn't the market force it once was.

I can't imagine that their ratings will be good as most of their lineup are syndicated shows, even through they now have a local morning show that runs for 2 hours before the Stephanie Miller Show, in the former time slot of The Bill Press Show, and they have an afternoon host both fo which are females, but that is just about it.

Don't look now, but 720 WGN is back up to a 4.0 share in ages 6+! That's a meteoric rise compared to earlier this year.

AM radio in general seemed to have a surprisingly good survey this time.

But WGN is still 19th in 25-54, although that is up from 28th just a few months ago.

Again, in 25, 54, the combined shares of the two major sports stations is flat, WLS is the high end of its normal wobbly range at a 1.7 and we can assume that WBBM, at the low end of its normal statistical range, is flat, with most listening on FM by now.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

If they can make it back into the top 15 on a regular basis, they should be happy. It's unrealistic to expect a large cohort of listeners under the age of 40 to that radio station, IMO.

Not sure about that, as Robert Feder doesn't report the ratings on weekends, he only does weekdays normally between the hours of 6 AM and Midnight, even through there are morning shows that can start as early as 5 AM, like starting Monday Steve Cochran's show will move to 5 AM and run until 9 AM. As he doesn't look at overnights or weekends which will be interesting, and some stations might only run programming that is only an hour long for each show, expect for WGN Radio. The big exception to that is Mike Stephen's show that airs before Lou Manfredini and the soon to be canceled Wintrust Business Lunch on Saturdays.

They still have a lot to go through if they want to competed against the really popular stations such as the Mix and WBBMs even when it comes to more morning drive as they two stations generally are first and second place.

And WGN Radio's fall certainly didn't happen in a day either, not sure when to pin point a date or year it happened, but you can cetnrainly look at it when the late Kevin Metheney took over as the prgogtram director, and he axed at point poplar show hosts, and had replaces like Jerry Agar, and a convicted felon as replacement hosts.

WGN's decline was slow, indeed. But most of the problem has been the gradual attrition of older listeners due to obvious reasons and the lack of replacement under-55 listeners due to the old-sounding format and the fact that the station is on the wrong band.

This is a station that died the death of a thousand knives, and there was no single cause for its gradual decline.

The numbers come from Nielsen.

Nobody cares about 55+, and the under-25 for this kind of station usually comes from accidental / unintentional listening (that which the PPM picks up from someone else's radio).

The loss of Bob Collins was a great tragedy for WGN Radio that could have been prevented, but didn't because of his and another airplane had collided with each other, because neither pilot was aware of the other, until it was too late. While the Chicago Blackhawks haven't done much in the last few seasons, but are you forgetting that they did win 3 Stanley Cups since they signed with WGN Radio in 2008? The Chicago White Sox have been nit expected to do much other then lose as they have been in rebuilding for quite a lot of years now, and that doesn't look to change. Even through they landed the services of their new catcher they signed in free agency.
