Decade of Fire

On November 4 at 10 p.m., Independent Lens (PBS) will air Vivian Vázquez Irizarry's Decade of Fire, a powerful examination of the conflagrant Bronx of the 1970s. For those whose only impressions of that area were formed by news footage of Charlotte Street or movies like Fort Apache, The Bronx (1981), this documentary is a must-see.

I can't comment on this specific documentary, but I did just watch the "Frontline" on demand doc on the devastating Paradise, CA fire. Simply excellent reporting and a great combination of actual footage and interviews with those who suffered through it. Fantastic. PBS is a national treasure.

If you missed Decade of Fire (as broadcast on PBS), you can stream it at the Independent Lens website. Unfortunately, the full 76-minute film had roughly 20 minutes of content excised to fit the hour-long televised presentation.
