It finally happened. KCPQ and KZJO acquired by FOX....

Fox to purchase kcpq/kzjo from nexstar

That was a quick exchange. Nexstar puchased Tribune and has owned Q13 and Joe TV for a few weeks. Reports out today say Fox will purchase KCPQ/KZJO from Nexstar, as well as the Milwaukee Fox affiliate for an amount in excess of $300 million. Fox finally will own the Seahawks station, as they have trying to enter this market for years. I would expect rebranding to Fox 13 News for newscasts, and Joe TV to be branded Fox 13 Plus or Fox 13 More, once the deal is cleared by the FCC.

I hope Fox will keep the Q13 branding. They better. They have been Q13 since they were an independent. If they dare switch names, a lot of Seattle viewers are NOT going to be happy.
Fox Television Stations will probably pink-slip Joe, he'll find work somewhere else, and 22 turns into Q13+ or Q13-More.

Yes. They'll get angry tweets from all 128 people who care.

When FOX bought KTVU in San Francisco, CA, they kept the KTVU 2 branding, but it became KTVU FOX 2. The news though will probably get back renamed to Q13 FOX News.

That makes sense. Q13 has lost a lot of talent of late, though. My best guess is the Fox ownership will replenish quite quickly. Interesting times in Seattle TV news...

Yes, they will attract right-leaning "in-your-face" anchors and add some "loud" graphics. I'm not sure if Fox will "replenish" too much though. The Fox O& in Phoenix, for example, doesn't have a particularly large news team.

Q13 FOX and Q13 FOX Plus.

There you go. Simple.

As I hope. I mean, they were called "Q13 Fox News" for a long time anyways. I hope Fox doesn't send the veteran news people packing...i.e. Bill Wixey, David Rose, M.J. McDermott. I still can't believe that with the exception of Liz Dueweke, the morning crew has been the same all these years later. Pet Walk Forecasts are still alive and well on 13 in the morning.

But the Fox O&O's local talent are not right wing though. Fox O&O's in San Francisco and Los Angeles had wildfire coverage recently and they said "Climate Change is Real and escalating" on some of the Wildfire segments some of the things that are not exactly "White House friendly" though when it comes to this topic though.

I don't have inside knowledge of whether they will maintain a large news team at KCPQ. However, "right leaning" anchors are not necessarily going to come to the surface, IMO. I would believe that the Fox O&O team will form their staff based on market psychographics, as I think they have done at KTTV in Los Angeles, and KTVU in San Francisco/Oakland.

Does anybody remember JOE-TV used to be called MY Q-2 right after they lost the WB affiliate back in 2006? I'm not sure if Seattle viewers will be confused with FOX 13 Plus.

Yeah, but I think that was a Tribune hire. Takes guts to move to a station undergoing ownership change.

That's a Nexstar hire though and this was sometime prior to Fox and Nexstar announcing a station trade. That person in the article was from KTVU Fox 2 News prior to moving to Seattle

Also the Fox Television stations division are more interested in NFL/NFC games promotions and MLB games promotions, local news than Politics case and point KTVU and KTVU+(officially KICU-TV San Jose) when Fox took over the San Francisco contract duopoly Fox affiliates they were more interested in revenue access from 49ers games (NFC Broadcasts), San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's games from whenever Fox was airing MLB games and NFC.

Sinclair Owned stations already attract right wing talent on their affiliates such as KOMO-TV in Seattle
