Skip Woolwine dies at 61

I know realtor & all, but he did have a nice radio resume, too.

P.S. Is there no longer a corresponding board on the other site? "East Tennessee" is the only state board i could find on the other site. And it's been dormant for 8+ months

Skip will be missed. One of the really earnest, good guys in the business. It was nice to see so many of "the golden era of real radio" gang in a church. For those who know local radio, Skip was at WLAC-FM back when it was Nashville's Class FM and the run away ratings and sales winner. Many of that era's crew attended and it was something to see. A handful of the old WSM-AM crew were also on hand. I did not see many of the old Y-107 crew, which we all suggested certainly shows the beginning of the affects of "outside ownership." He was a part of the Hippie Radio family at the time of his passing.

In true Skip-form, they streamed the service. Skip was instrumental in getting St. George's Church to stream their Sunday services live. A handful of those not in the market have commented that they watched the service live. Pretty impressive. Phil Valentine did the eulogy, and in true radio form brought the shock and awe into the hallowed halls of the church. Skip would approve. While he could be serious and focused, there was always that slight Animal House youth in him, as noted by his band, Fade to Black, featuring the incredible Clifford Curry, Moody Castleman and others.

Rick Oshay

I might be wrong so correct me, but I think Skip worked as "Rick Oshay" on WKDA 1240 way back in late 70s early 80s. Met him and other than he didn't like Uncle Bud's Catfish joint, he was nice guy. RIP

Skip was one of the truly good guys. Worked with him at two different shops, and have nothing but admiration and love for him. He was instrumental in making the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame a reality. And most recently, he has been part of the broadcast team for Montgomery Bell Academy sports.
Because I was stuck at my current radio ranch, I could not attend the service. I saw it on the stream, and Phil nailed it with the eulogy.
RIP, Skip.
