Bob Kingsley, a radio legend whose voice was synonymous with country music, died on Thursday, October 17, 2019, at his home in Weatherford, Texas while receiving treatment for cancer. He was 80.

One of broadcasting’s most beloved and iconic figures, Kingsley was a mainstay on radio for 60 years. His dominance in the country format began in 1978 when he took over as host of American Country Countdown after four years as the show’s producer for one of radio’s founding syndication companies, Watermark, founded by Tom Rounds. In 2006, he and his wife and business partner Nan Kingsley established Bob Kingsley’s Country Top 40, produced by their own KCCS Productions, still running on more than 320 stations.

RIP Bob Kingley Country Music has had a terrible loss.

I had the honor of not only meeting Bob, but I did an hour interview that was on a local cable channel in Ventura California. Bob is one of the reason's I got into the broadcast business. He was always very friendly and warm to be around. The interview I did was at Watermark, and you could not have asked for anyone to have been nicer and more accommodating. When ABC didn't re-up his contract, I was working for Premiere Radio Networks and tried really hard to convince the group that it would be a great asset to the network, but they could not come to terms. My thoughts and prayers go out to Nan and his entire radio family. He was one of a kind.

I knew something was up when there was a guest host last week. This is heartbreaking news. Country music has lost one of its biggest legends ever, and not a singer. From the days of Tammy Wynette and Alabama, through the '90s battle between Alan, Garth and George, and up to today's new artists, he brought country radio what Casey Kasem did for top 40. He will dearly be missed by millions of listeners and by everyone in Nashville.
RIP Bob. Keep counting down those weekly hits up in the sky.

My local country station WTCM, a longtime Bob Kingsley affiliate (they were one of the stations that switched from ACC to CT40 in 2006), just mentioned this on the air

They announced that they have celebrity guest hosts thru mid November. They might now extend that until a decision is made.

My first paying job in radio was board op-ing American Country Countdown on Sundays. For a whopping $4.85/hour!

yes, he did do the show out of Weatherford in his home studio. WFAA did a story on him last year.

Sad news indeed.Prayers and condolences go out to his wife and friends.Hope the CMA awards coming up this Wednesday will honor him....... He was Casey Kasem of country music .

Love his work with Drake Chenault years ago plus with work on ACC and his current show...

Hi all...I did not watch the entire CMA Awards shows last Wednesday night but I hope Bob got a mention on the show............

BTW .It was nice to see Dolly,Reba,Willie,Garth,Crystal and other classic country artists in the mix there...

I don't recall any memorial segment at all to any country artists (such as Roy Clark) or radio personalities who died this past year.

Writer/producer Busbee was mentioned by Maren Morris in her acceptance speech.

There was a celebration of life for Bob in Nashville the day after the CMA Awards.

Thanks for the info TheBigA...Its sad that they did not run a memorial piece like the Oscars and some other awards shows do every year.

Yes .I did read info just after he passed that there will be a memorial for him in Nashville this month...

BTW. I hope his show continues in his honor.Similar to Dick Clark's "Rock "N" Eve" show.........
