Long distance signal transmission??

Please bear with me, probably a silly question (I am contemplating getting into FM broadcasting)

What are my options for long distance signal transmission?

Here's my hypothetical. Say I would like to buy an existing radio station in Texas, but I live and want to broadcast out of Minnesota. What are my options for getting my signal from my studio in Minnesota to my transmitter in Texas? Is that something that can be done over internet? Some sort of dedicated line? What kind of equipment would I use for that?

Barix box is a great option for broadcasting an online stream -- just change the password from the default or expect to get hacked. Relatively inexpensive. A computer where you want to broadcast from (with a fair amount of RAM and good internet access) will usually be sufficient for an internet stream originator.

I mean, if you wanna go cheap, a basic Windows PC (with good internet access) at the transmitter site/local studio would work adequately. Just make sure you have a trustworthy local near the radio station who can access the site and reboot the PC/restart the stream when it lags out or gets squirrely (as PCs have been known to be when left on for weeks on end)

go with a DEva box... around the same price, maybe slightly more expensive then a barix... i worked in a rural network radio setting and barix would get stupid and not always retune during a power or internet outage. deva is the next best option before a comrex briclink which is $2 grand

Yes, there are many options to get your audio over long distances. But, being that remote from a station presents many other problems: sales, engineering, promotions, public affairs interviews, and reports to name a few. You will need staff local to the broadcast area to keep the behind the scenes side running if you are exclusively out of the area.
