Houston FM translator sold

From RadioInsight:

Hispanic Family Christian Network sells 98.7 K254BZ Fairbanks/Houston TX to Music Masala Inc. for $1.15 million. The translator already rebroadcasts the buyer’s South Asian “Masala Radio” via Cox’s 107.5 KGLK-HD3.

Of course Masala Radio was displaced by the sale of its former home, KTEK. It has been running on 98.7 for several weeks, and they had been pushing listeners over to 98.7 before the KTEK flip.

This is an unusual situation where the programmer fully controls the translator, but not the originating station.

KGLK HD-3 had been the origination for Hum-FM (106.1) but I have noticed that an HD-4 has appeared on 107.5, also with South Asian programming. Haven't listened long enough to determine who is who...Hum might still be on the HD-3 and Masala actually on the HD-4.

K254BZ has a CP to move to a tower in Stafford, which is also used by K258BZ (Radio Dabang 99.5.) That would give it good coverage of the target demo, if it is not already on the air from that site.

We now have five South Asian targeted FMs in Houston on 95.1, 97.3, 98.7, 99.5 and 106.1.

Worst Black Friday deal ever.

I can't believe someone would risk that much money on a translator that is a few complaints away from being shut down. Especially since rimshot stations last went for ~5 Million.
