92.5 XTU Becomes Garth 92.5 in Celebration of Philly Show

https://news.****************/artic...comes-Garth-925-in-Celebration-of-Philly-Show

Beasley Media Group's 92.5 XTU will flip the station name to become "Garth 92.5" in honor of Garth Brook's upcoming "Dive Bar Tour" concert. The event will take place on Monday, December 2nd at Prospector's Grille & Saloon in Philadelphia

XTU is stunting for Garth Brooks playlists.

I've listened to 92.5 maybe a grand total of five minutes in my 23 years living in Philly.

I hate country so much lol.

wow, riveting content you posted there.. way to add depth to this conversation, even though Haddon Heights, NJ isn't in Philly.

I wonder how many people haven't listened to 89.7 a grand total of five minutes in their 23 years living in Glassboro? They hate college radio so much lol.

A reminder that no radio station ever gets a 100% share. Every radio station, whether it be WXTU or WGLS, receives fractions of the overall audience base.

Or as my parent used to say: different strokes for different folks.

If you aspire to ever make a living in this business, my advice is to keep an open mind lol

but dont you know, hes a radio expert? afterall, he has run his own pirate station...

I've certainly listened to WGLS a lot more than 92.5. The last time I tuned to 92.5 for any amount of time, it was new wave Rock of the 80s WIFI from March to July 1983. Although there was that "Cross Trax" country-rock experiment in March 2002 with Pam Merly from 7 to 11PM on WXTU. That was fun but, like Rock of the 80s, it didn't last long.

Point of information: Cume for WXTU is around 650,000 people. So someone listens. It may not be you or anyone you know, but that's OK.

That's right. Lowest Common Denominator programming isn't for everybody, but it does cume. XTU has made generic country work for 36 years now without most of us as listeners.

Clearly you all took my comment wayyyy too seriously. I have nothing against XTU- hell they're easily one of the steadiest station to work for in this market. And someradioguy- you got a bug up your ass about me? Like uh picking on someone probably far younger than you makes you feel real tough doesn't it big boy.

Plus- there's no reason to make fun of the station I'm on. Obviously yes, it's a college station. The jokes write themselves. So uh, shut up?

Because they know darn well what works? Or is this another “I’m better than the uncultured masses” thing?

Oh and someradioguy- maybe don't give out my actual location on a public forum? Just like I wouldn't do that to you. But you don't really respect that do you?

What bothers me the most is like, yeah, personally I don't like country music, but if you or anyone wants to make money in radio- well you better saddle up because if I'm not mistaken, country is the most popular format in the US.

Well, that I'm better than the uncultured masses is clearly implied. Most of us wouldn't be here if we were the typical LCD audience, though I thank you guys for tuning in and reporting on this stuff so I don't have to listen myself.

The salient point is that in the case of all stations, most people don't listen. Nobody's pulling 60-shares, let alone ratings.

Oh believe me JB, I don't listen to half the stations we talk about on here. Maybe a for a few minutes, but that's it. I usually stick to WHYY, KYW, WKDU, WRFF and WGLS.

Can't you just feel the holiday spirit here? LOL. It seems like some folks are in a crummy mood today. If I may offer a tip: This site has an Ignore feature so that (A) you don't have to see posts from argumentative folks or folks who constantly post inane jibberish and (B) you won't be tempted to respond to those people. Hell, I finally got sick of it and blocked someone who's in this very thread. Once a person is blocked, the site shows you that the person submitted something but it doesn't show you what they submitted...so you can just keep scrolling with no added Grinch-iness!

Rd10, I enjoy your status reports on stations. It lets those of us out-of-market know what's going on and it creates a historical record. For example, WBZC has gone from a fully operational station to a neglected satellite inside of 3 years, and in only 25 years of existence. That's a part of the history of academic noncommercial operators starting to bail out. We wouldn't know that it was broadcasting dead air without your report.

That's an aside, as this thread is about WXTU which has been country longer than any other format it's been in since its inception in 1958. (Though I wonder if one of the Boogie Bugs is still around somewhere?)

All mass appeal radio formats, whether country or rock or AC or CHR or Urban or whatever are "generic". They are true to their genre (the word "generic" actually means "belonging to a large group of objects,") by appealing to the larger mass of people who like that kind of music. There is nothing wrong, and there is much to be had by appealing to the largest group of listeners possible.

Niche formats, unless non-commercial, fail.
