South Florida PBS May Take Over Running WLRN FM and TV

According to the Herald South Florida PBS may end up being the group that will manage the operation of WLRN. If the news staff end up going to work for PBS that would resolve the concerns from having them possibly becoming Miami-Dade Schools employees but what will happen to Friends of WLRN? Will they have any stake in the new operation?

I was somewhat surprised to read that the WLRN-FM is more expensive to operate than the TV station. $9 million annually vs. $4 million!

I'm not. News is more expensive to produce than just air PBS programs you can find on your schedule.

In fact, if you compare PBS vs. NPR stations, NPR will win more in expenses because of news.

They'll come up with something eventually. At this point it's the least of the problems facing WLRN and school board.

I hope they do because adding more subs was a sticking point for me for SFL-PBS eventually taking over WLRN plus providing a balanced newsroom with expanded coverage.
