TV-Related Predictions for 2020

Because the NWA Powerrr tapings are held at the GPB Studios in Atlanta, GA thats why and it would get PBS its record ratings ever.

The outcome is a foregone conclusion; nonetheless, it is historic (regardless of one’s views on the underlying issues) and will be covered/carried extensively. That said, “up through the election,” as one poster suggested? Nonsense. Assuming the anticipated timeline more or less holds, the House vote will be before the end of the year. A Senate trial will barely make it through the winter, let alone throughout the year, bleeding into election time.

Seriously, the “predictions” seem especially bizarre this year.

MLB will go Geographical, add a Team in Orlando and allow ESPN to do round two Series,League Champinship Series and World Series/All-Star Game every other year.
NBA Draft also live on NBATV same with NFL Draft FSN/CBSSN/NBCSN.
Weather Channel back to 24/7 Weather.
Nexstar will added a secondary channel to WDAF. Start TV,Charge and so on to KC area.
Wipeout and Hollywood Squares comes back same with a Home Improvement,Brady Brunch and so on remake.

Some cities in battleground states will pre-empt National Election coverage from their network for expanded local news for election results in 2020.

Didn't ABC renew all of their summer game shows? I'm not sure if a Hollywood Squares revival would fit in there, or even the Supermarket Sweep project with Leslie Jones.

I'll add another prediction, albeit local to me:
Yakima becomes the next U.S. city with no local news department, as Sinclair shuts down KIMA's news department, sells the studios to developers, and combines the newscast at KEPR Pasco. (Like the ABC/NBC affiliates here)
I hate to say it but KIMA is a very tired operation. Half of their news is Sinclair must runs, stuff from KOMO, health reports from 2000 miles away, the weekly 'Spotlight on America' and weather forecasts that are fed from KEPR. And even then morning/weekend/11pm is ran by KEPR. It's only 5/6pm that come from Yakima.

MLB will go Geographical, add a Team in Orlando and allow ESPN to do round two Series,League Champinship Series and World Series/All-Star Game every other year.

There will be no expansion for 2020, either of the number of teams or the number of playoff rounds, and no teams are moving. ESPNs current deal expires after the 2020 season, and the Fox and Turner deals are through 2021.

If Orlando ever gets a team, it'll be if the Tampa Bay Rays move there. Don't hold your breath.

News ratings go through the roof as Trump loses the election, but declares it "fake" with the help of the GOP. A rogue SOS refuses to certify the results throwing the election results into chaos.

Well 21 Jump Street has two owners though. One the TV Series is owned by Disney (20th Century Fox) and Sony has the film if Fox was really that interested in rebooting that show that may not happen though.

I agree that if the impeachment hearings continue to drag out that one or more soaps could be canceled because of it, and will either be replaced with more network talk shows or the time will turned back over to local stations. Also if the latter happens some local stations could go to more time for local news. But hopefully not more trash talk, courtroom shows, or infomercials.

If a soap show gets cancelled wouldn't these shows simply move to places like All-Access, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime though.

Daytime programming was pretty volatile back then, especially since game shows were still a staple of daytime TV. "Wheel" became a fixture (and for some, apparently, an obsession), but those last two shows didn't last even a year, which was pretty common. Maybe the hearings (less than two weeks, total) back in the summer of 1974, had something to do with their (and Wheel's) predecessors' cancellation, but I'm still not convinced that was the case.

One thing that happened because of the Watergate hearings was that game shows with celebrity guests on a week long schedule were thrown off top where they would change in the middle of the week. I can remember there being jokes made about it on Match Game at the time.

Concerning the impeachment the trial in the Senate will probably be a joke. Trump will be acquitted, and there won't be enough Republicans who will have the backbone to stand up to him and convict him and put him out. The most any if them will say is that it may be wrong but it's noit an impeachable offense. Most people will have made up their minds either way with no changing it. But if the Democrats continue to control the house and win back the senate they will likely try again.

Even if, and that’s a big if, the Democrats won the senate, and kept the house—no small task—they will never, ever, have the votes necessary to convict in the senate. Perhaps the president would commit more impeachable offenses, and if so, they will need to cross that bridge when the time comes. But it’s not something to “try” again. It requires something to act upon.

I second Rays to Orlando.
ÑHL Draft also on ESPN.

Except for pro football -- and the Dolphins are known to have problems filling their stadium in down seasons -- Florida is a weak, weak, weak market for pro sports, especially baseball. Why in the world would the Rays want to stay in the state?

Orlando needs NFL/NHL as OKC needs another Pro team.
In next deal rotate World Series between networks. Also ESPN part of Super Bowl rotation.
IONTV will turn into a Major Network with local News on it.
A superstation channel starts in Los Angeles,Orlando and so on.

I second Rays to Orlando.

As I said earlier, IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN in 2020. IS. NOT. Maybe a few years down the road, but not in 2020.

ÑHL Draft also on ESPN.

NBC has the rights through the 2020-21 season. NBCSN will air the first round, with NHL Network carrying the rest, After that, all bets are off. Fox and Disney are in the mix for the next deal.

In the future if Rays move maybe Orlando or so on.
ESPN part of MLB Draft coverage next year with it been in Omaha and covers the College World Series.
NBATV comes to CCI so does National feed of Digital Sub Channels.

A few more (which may be wishful thinking):

--Following the success of Tom Hanks' "Won't You Be My Neighbor," Mister Rogers reruns return to TV via PBS Kids. Some PBS stations start airing the show again. Most likely reruns of the 1990s episodes are shown.

--In light of the above "Mister Rogers" revival, PBS considers a revival of "Electric Company," to debut in time for that show's 50th anniversary in 2021.

--In light of ABC and NBC success with primetime game show revivals, CBS finally enters the game--by producing new versions of "Price Is Right" Million Dollar Spectaculars. Including a summer run. Leading up to the CBS TPIR's 50th season in 2021-2022 (and its official 50th birthday Sept. 2022). (And then if Bob Barker is still with us in late 2023, in honor of his 100th birthday). One of the shows will even be at least a "$10 Million Spectacular," perhaps with cars given away on each pricing game. CBS will also consider nighttime specials for "Let's Make a Deal," perhaps a celebrity version. And perhaps the revival of another game show (to be determined).

--No surpise, but Xfinity (Comcast) will continue to push their X1 boxes. To the point that older cable boxes will be phased out, and entire cable packages (perhaps even those on higher packages than Digital Starter) will only be available on X1 receivers and no longer available via older boxes. Comcast will also start gradually moving toward dropping SD versions of networks that are also available in HD. (Those channels currently only available on SD won't be affected). Possibly any SD/HD duplicates on packages above Digital Starter will lose their SD channels in 2020. Afterward SD channels will continue to be phased out on Comcast until the only SD/HD dupes are only available at the Limited Basic level.

ed orgeron for Dancing with the Stars I hope the NWSL signs a TV deal with NBC over ESPN NBC Get Doug Flutie off of Notre Dame games (it's like hiring Bo Schembechler to commentate on Ohio State) and get Brady Quinn from Fox Sports Alesha Dixon and miley cyrus for America's Got Talent NEW judges abc cancelled american idol

The "team" playing football in the Northeast will have yet another major
cheating scandal. The scandal will be irrefutable. The NFL will take swift
and decisive action. NFL ratings, nationwide, will skyrocket as the "team"
loses both it's quarterback and head coach. TV ratings in a small area
of the Northeast will plummet.
