The talk show host did nothing, allowing a caller to threaten the life of the county executive. That's complicit.

If the executive agrees, he can send the county sheriff down and have the host arrested. I don't expect he will.

You're using words that don't apply in this situation.

Where did I say they "HAD to take the government's word?" Radio is regulated by the government. If the government is promoting false statements and radio just repeats them, then what's the penalty? None. What they're doing is obviously great for ratings and revenue. They're one of the top stations in Buffalo.

If you don't like what the government and a radio station are doing, it's really your problem. You need to go out and educate your neighbors. I'm sure they'll all sit quietly and listen to you lecture them on how stupid they all are. But it's not radio's job to educate your stupid neighbors. They're just making a living.

So basically radio has ZERO responsibility to broadcast fact instead of fiction---even when they know their audience thinks the fiction is fact.

Got it.

Who is going to force the radio station to do otherwise? You? They have zero responsibility unless an authority tells them they have that responsibility.

Until then, they're in the entertainment business, and apparently everyone who listens is very entertained.

You want to sue them for fraud? Go ahead. Let us all know how it turns out.

Uh oh...

From the "Careful What You Wish For" Department...

According to a Time.com article about the firing:

"In an official statement posted on Twitter on Wednesday evening KNUS-AM said the decision to end the program was made immediately."

So far, so good, right? Keep in mind, we're talking about rightwing talkradio---and just when you think they're doing the responsible thing....

"KNUS-AM gave an official statement on its website stating that the 1-4 p.m. weekday slot would now feature the Salem Network show America First hosted by Sebastian Gorka."

BAM!

Leaving the "school shooting" guy on would be more reasonable than airing that lunatic Gorka. The school shooting crack was a bad joke. Gorka, though, is certifiable.

Sounds to me like it was more like a quick-fill-in choice which the station doesn't have to pay for since they have the same ownership. And it's in Denver so you don't have to worry about your ears getting polluted here.

(and how did we get a thread on Tim Wenger all the way to Denver? I think we all know the answer...)

How does NOBODY at WBEN care? How do any talkradio demagogues sleep at night knowing they're terribly misinforming and misguiding people on a daily basis---and I'm not talking about ideology here. I'm talking about idiotic and nefarious conspiracy theories that used to be relegated to that crazy uncle you only saw at Thanksgiving. Now, thanks to the conscienceless talkradio clones, it's spoon-fed on a daily basis.

And don't blather on about "it's a business so everything is OK". You don't have to deal in BS to have an entertaining and engaging and spirited debate on ANY subject. If you have to LIE to hold and audience, then you suck as a host.

Yes you are. It's all about ideology. You believe what they say is a lie. What makes it a lie? That you don't agree? Then you're talking about ideology.

Jesus Christ are you obtuse.

I guess, like many rightwingers these days, you don't know what an actual "fact" is.

THREAD CLOSED

This thread started out with a discussion of a caller's threat against a local politician en whether the WBEN and the host should have acted proactively given the fact that, well, a threat is a threat.

Unfortunately, we have gone in the direction of "conservative talkers lie" and the rebuttals to that belief.

One person's perspective is another person's lie. In many cases, in subjective matters, "right" and "wrong" have a blurry center field.

Enough has been said. The discussing is now more political than about radio.

THREAD CLOSED.
