WMJX Is Promising More 80's Music Starting Dec 26

Just heard the promo while listening to Christmas Music.

Are they trying to cut into WROR ?

And will they actually be adding titles or increasing how often the '80s titles already on the playlist are played. I don't see either move really threatening WROR. What kind of songs will be added? More pop, lighter r&b and soft rock? Not going to grab listeners who like WROR's whitebread, rock-leaning playlist. More '80s rock hits? Maybe will attract a few of ROR's younger listeners who only listen for '80s tunes and don't care for earlier decades.

My expectation is that no or very few new titles will be added and you'll just hear more Michael, more Cyndi, more Huey, more Phil, more often.

Based on their tepid Christmas music selection you might be correct.

I wonder what % 80's music they were playing and what % 80's music they will be playing come Thursday ?

Yeah, their Christmas music selection stinks! I miss their 18 hour Christmas Eve show with all those new age instrumentals. Maybe they should revive it for next Christmas. Until then, I'm listening to the Sounds of Christmas and WCSF's Spirit of Christmas show out of Joliet, Illinois.

@bostonradio tweet:
"Looking at the playlist, seems like 25% of the songs are from the 80s. Same as it was before X-mas break. I think they’re just trying to stop folks jumping back to ROR once everyone goes back to work next week"

Unless maybe they plan to add more eventually, but, yeah.Meanwhile WROR HD2 keeps running "Men From Maine...on the Loren and Wally show"...that ended in summer.

Maybe the promo was just a placebo -- get the listeners thinking that they'll be hearing more '80s once the Christmas music ends and they'll think they actually are hearing more when the changeover comes.

I think your conclusion is quite valid for now. I want to hear how they sound on the 6th.

Dig a little deeper and you may find that PLM has a bigger piece of the pie than one may think.

Agreed, if you look in adults 25-54 and even 18-49 PLM has been VERY competitive in the market recently. So has The River. I was surprised. Although I believe the River is using Maxxcasting. Whatever they are doing it's working.
