WISX

That's worked out so well for anyone else who tried.

To be fair, it hasn't worked out too well for those who tried to compete at all in the AC space. The Breeze seems to be having a better go of it. If they tanked in the demos while B101.1 was doing Christmas, I don't think it's inconceivable that they could try it next year.

Certainly fair. They've done what hasn't worked for others, for whatever combination of reasons/circumstances. If I were placing a bet, I'd guess they more or less maintained the course with whatever wobble might have happened, but soon enough we'll see.

Another thing you have to realize is that WISX actually played NO Christmas music. It would be nice if they sprinkled some in along with their regular music.

That's incredible that WISX didn't play any Christmas Music at all. In my market (Hartford) our independently owned Oldies station - Kool Radio played 2 Christmas Songs an hour everyday for 3 weeks leading up to Christmas Day. By Christmas Eve/Day we even had Country Christmas on our i-Heart owned Country station and another station in the market was airing Casey Kasem's Christmas Countdown on a loop Christmas Eve/Day. And that was on a major Entercom owned station.

WISX actually did play some Christmas music. I think it was fewer than one per hour but they definitely played them. I heard some with my own ears and saw some with my own eyes on their Recently Played list.

Yes I too can confirm they played some Christmas music. I heard it. No more than one per hour though. And there might have been some hours looking far back at the recently-played list that it was zero, but there was a very small handful of really big classics like Andy Williams in there. But that was it.

I think playing very limited or even no Christmas music can be a competitive advantage, if your competitors go all-Christmas. There is definitely a segment of listeners who don't like Christmas music, or get tired of it after so many weeks, or just want a change of pace, and playing 4 Christmas songs an hour will probably just chase them off again after a few minutes.
