I see some consistency here with the numbers, despite the Christmas formats. Everyone seems to be performing at where they should be. KIRO obviously does well when the Seahawks are doing well. KPLZ is right in the mix. Really few surprises. Status quo...though I wonder about Sinclair's KVI. Can't anything be done to get those numbers up? I know, AM radio is dead, but really? Even a simulcast of KOMO might help them, (said sarcastically). I understand they are programming revenue producing programs, but to what eventual gain? Or I am just hopelessly lost in a band that has little value?

Six stations flipped All-Christmas in Seattle this year, two earlier in the December book (November) the rest in the Holiday book (December). Seems it was a smart move for WARM to go early, not as wise for THE SOUND.
Otherwise numbers remain pretty consistent in Seattle with MOVIN, WARM and others on top. KUOW, END and STAR seem to have rebounded to their usual market positions after a few lower months especially in their respective demos. Bet the impeachment controversy helped KUOW and KIRO for that matter along with Seahawks. Last year there were several talent changes and format adjustments around Christmas. None that I can tell this year, anything different? As the poster said above: Seattle radio is consistent.
 
KRWM lower than usual but still #1. Perhaps the 10 share will come on the holiday book.
KCMS, KPLZ and KSWD flipped to Xmas but they are still nowhere near 106.9. KPLZ got a bump but 105.3 got no bump. And KSWD adjusted down! 98.9 back down in the 2's, and KQMV down over a share but still #2. Also a big drop for 96.5, not surprised with Christmas music on other stations.
102.9 getting worse ratings as La Z than they were with the placeholder Smooth Jazz.

Saw commercials today on TV for WARM and STAR. Both say they have a New Sound, probably just marketing!
It would be surprising to see those Star spots on any other station besides KOMO. Warm usually buys some traditional TV and cable avails and does multiple stealth direct marketing campaigns throughout the year.
 
Apparently being the first station in the All Christmas format really didn't help KSWD. Other than that, nothing really to see with this book. As for the new sounds of Star and Warm, Star actually does sound a bit different. They've got new imaging which I'm not sure like, and are playing much more gold than they were before. In the 9:00 A.M. hour yesterday I heard both Pink's a Million Dreams and the Revivalists - Whish I Knew You, both of which I haven't heard there since this summer at least. Also heard U2 - Right Here, Right Now in the 10:00 A.M. hour this morning. Supposedly they're going to play more artists not heard on the radio anymore such as John Mayor and U2, as well as Northwest artists such as the Head and the Heart and even Nervana. Haven't heard either of hose though.

For those of us who are out of the market, what were the other two stations that switched to All Christmas?
 
As a fan of Xmas music on radio there were at least six, maybe more. KRWM and KSWD jumped the first week after Halloween. Three or four weeks later KPLZ, KCMS, KAFE, along with KIXI and a couple more AM signals and rimshot signals all flipped and will see how they do in the Holiday book. Only KRWM and KSWD had gone all Christmas for December book. An earlier poster was right. STAR sounds a bit different when I tuned in this afternoon, but nothing drastic.

May only be 10% of Seattle metro but it's growing. Look at Monroe. 9.5% in 2000, now 17%+ as of 2010 and I'm sure higher in 2020. They make up 16% of Federal Way and over 20% of Burien. The working-class towns are where they are mostly at, and I've seen 99.3 booths at the Evergreen State Fair in the past.

Not only that... not all Hispanics like the same format.

So you have in Seattle about 50% of Hispanics who are not Spanish dominant. Then you have the second generation Hispanics who will be more likely to listen to English stations. And you then have the remainder who may not like any one particular format.

So out of, let's say, 10% of the market, we are down to maybe a 2 to 3 share for one particular Spanish language format, less if the signal is not a prime full market one.

Nielsen does not go by towns and cities. It goes by the counties in a Metro Survey Area; there is more granular sample proportionality balancing but it is based on ZIP Code groupings, not the borders of towns.
 
You refer to six Christmas stations. Nine pages later, I still don't have an answer to my question. Am I to infer that both Country stations switched to All Christmas? It doesn't actually say that.

I'm in the market and I can't find six. The four FMs and KIXI are what I can think of, that's five. My prediction is that KRWM will have its usual big numbers, KPLZ will be second, a few other stations in regular formats, then KSWD, with KCMS at he bottom of the fm pile, with KIXI not moving much.
 
For some reason, everything after Rob's post and my next one did not show up last night, so I missed Guru's answer to my question and appreciate it. I however dispute the notion that Bellingham is part of the Seattle market, so if we count KIXI, that brings the total to five. While I was typing this, Bob came through, basically restating my question and arriving at the same conclusion.
