We're done with the traditional U.S. Class B/Cs so let's tackle the (U.S.) non-comm band. I will confess to not knowing it as well as the commercial band.
Starting at the beginning, what do you/did you/have you heard on 88.1?
East Tennessee: Almost always a deep fringe signal from WUTC, Chattanooga (I wish we had this NPR instead of parent WUOT in Knoxville). Ocassionally WCQS, Asheville NC may sneak across the mountain.
DX from here includes UNID Spanish language stations. KTNU, Dallas mixed with another Texas Christian station one July day.
Retro/other: Dayton, Ohio has local WPDS.
Lafayette IN area in the 90s. I still don't know who I had in the distance playing "Skip A Rope" by Henson Cargill.
FM DX Clip of the Week: WJIS, Bradenton, FL by E-Skip (Joy 88) from 1987.
