AM Frequency of the week: 570

Far northwest suburban Chicago.....

Days: Splatter from local WIND (560)

Nights: A relatively empty channel with WIND nulled. Most of the time down through the years WKYX from Paducah, Ky has been most likely to rise to the top. In recent months, however, WKYX has been supplanted by WNAX running 1kw ND on STA. Although I haven't heard WNAX on my most recent tries (including before dawn this morning). I've also heard WKBN from Youngstown, OH on a couple of occasions.

In the near north Chicago suburbs daytime it's all WIND splatter. Nights not much. I've heard WKYX Paducah a few times, but not recently. WNAX a couple of times.
Speaking of WNAX they have a tremendous daytime groundwave signal. I've heard them during the day as far east as Galena, il on a car radio.

Nothing comes in on 570 here in the day (plus, that end of the dial is really too noisy anyway). If it were quiet, MAYBE a faint WMCA NYC would come in.

One late sunset, a few of us heard (and got a nice taped ID from) WTEM in Washington DC.

Nights have brought in WSYR Syracuse, WMCA, and everyone's favorite UNiD -- Radio Reloj.

The den is near the 'R' in the WWRC flag.

At my college location in southeast Iowa, our carrier current campus station broadcast on 570. If we were off during daylight hours, WNAX was clearly audible

Warminster PA(Philly burbs):

Daytime: splatter from local 560 WFIL, maybe a small trace of WMCA from NYC.
Night: WMCA much stronger.

East Tennessee: Days: WWNC Asheville with WIDS, Russell Springs KY underneath. Night: WWNC with Cuba underneath.

Retro/other: Just about anywhere in Ohio and even Indiana, WKBN, Youngstown. On the Edinburgh IN SDR, I've heard WKBN, WWNC, Radio Reloj and lately, WTBN, Pinellas Park FL obviously on day facilities.

West Central Georgia

Days: WAAX Gadsden AL 5000/500

Nights: Usually WWNC Asheville NC 5000; have also heard KLIF Dallas TX 5000, WTBN Pinellas Park/Tampa 5000 and of course Radio Reloj CUBA

Here in Wood Dale, IL in the near NW suburb of Chicago:

Daytime: WIND splatter
Nightime: WKYX or WNAX

DX/RETRO: another common visitor at night used to be a Radio Reloj outlet from Cuba. However I have not heard them lately. Others heard in the past include KROX (Dallas, TX), WAAX (Gadsden, AL), WPLP (Pinellas Park, FL), WMAM (Peshtigo, WI), WKBN (Youngstown, OH), WVMI (Biloxi, MS). Also TIRN, San Jose, Costa Rica on the split frequency of 575 kHz.

From my location, 25 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City:

Day: WNAX, Yankton, SD, stronger in winter.

Critical Hours: WNAX, KWML, Las Cruces, NM [morning when they switch to day power, non-directional pattern.]

Night: WNAX while on the STA, otherwise no other stations logged.

Bob

Update: I tried 570 a little before 5am this morning (two hours before local sunrise). The result was a very weak WNAX. I came back about 20 minutes later and the signal was much stronger. Alone and without fading. My takaway was that WNAX is still on the STA, and for whatever reson powering up at 5am.

Yes, WNAX was quite good this morning. Heard at 6:10 am.

From NW San Antonio:

Day: A moderate signal from KLIF in Dallas with a weaker XEBJB in Monterrey. underneath. There's also some splatter from 580 XELDRA.

Sunset: Both stations are stronger, and XEBJB sometimes takes over. Occasionally KWML "Kool Oldies" in Las Cruces will mix in.

Night: Similar to sunset, with KLIF still most dominant. When propagation is good, WNAX can be heard underneath or mixing in, and KWML and Radio Reloj sometimes pop in weakly when I aim NW/SE.

Sunrise: WNAX usually comes up underneath KLIF/XEBJB for a while when it goes back to day pattern.

Similar in Houston, with splatter from KLVI an issue at times. Last night just after midnight, I heard an echo against KLIF's C2C AM. At the bottom of the hour I caught an ID from WNAX, first time I've ID'ed them.
