iHeart Seattle layoffs

Any word yet on new impending iHeart layoffs?

Former KBKS PD Mike Preston was on the list unfortunately. Great programmer who had only been in Baltimore for 2 years. Hopefully he makes it back to the west coast.

From what I'm reading, it's a bloodbath. Every iHeart station in every market is affected, to the point the stations have all taken their personality rosters offline. That's not good...

We hear it's 10% of work force...

Sittin pretty

iHeart national has asked me to operate all of their formats in all of their markets from a bank of computers in my bedroom studio. Behind the curtain, this means all humans will be laid off at all stations. All music and voice tracking will run from here.

New announcers include Siri in the Morning and Alexa Afternoons, specifically tailored for each format.

I'll be getting minimum wage 29 hours a week. No benefits, darn it.

My iHeart contact admitted that this won't entirely fix their financial problems, but it should keep upper management employed until the facilities can be strip mined to other major broadcast companies.

"According to Nielsen Ratings, Sports Fanatics had been the #1 show in central Iowa for the last year in the coveted 25-54 demographic for male listeners."

Ratings rule, NOT.

I'd be more concerned if I had one of their higher salaries. Could be bad news for morning shows.

Brilliant satire.

There's no way they could have had that many employees after the last 4 restructurings.

That's what stands out to me about this latest announcement. For more than ten years I've been hearing how iHeart has killed local air staffs. Then I see all these names in all these small markets, and wonder how it was possible for all these people to still be there after all of the cuts during that time.

Marty Riemer and Nate Conners are out at KJRF and KZOK respectively. Marty has been living in Germany, Nate is local. Condolences to them both.

I listened to a little of KZOK earlier today and heard some new guy (presumably voice tracked). Is Vanderpool gone as well or is he doing Nate's shift?

A few months ago, I was driving to Eastern Washington and was listening to KZOK until Snoqualmie Pass. There was a woman filling in for Vanderpool who had a very, well, frankly phony presentation style that didn't seem right for a classic rock station (maybe pop/top 40). I wonder if was just a test for what has now come to fruition.

Very unfortunate news. Marty always came across as a genuine person over-the-air, and put together one of the better morning shows in the Seattle market with Jodi. Condolences to Nate as well, for he has been working at KZOK in some capacity or another for as long as I can remember. I wish them well.

A lot of great talent being shown the door. Does anyone know what the average no compete clause is in radio. I wonder if the competition might try to snag someone?
