They preempted that for this?

Trial coverage today lasted until about 3:08 Eastern on ABC. General Hospital was a rerun for markets that JIP'd it. CBS lasted until about 3:15. NBC overlayed a voiceover from Lester Holt at 4:00 announcing that stations are now allowed to switch to programming, at which point WNBC New York did so, but WVIT Hartford continued until 5:00. WTHR in Indianapolis continued airing trial coverage until 6:00.

Every day this week, FOX affiliate WDAF in Kansas City is pre-empting Wheel of Fortune with specials hyping the Chiefs in the Super Bowl titled "Red Monday", "Red Tuesday", etc. WOF is bumped to 11:30 PM Central, replacing Seinfeld.

I read that one of the American skaters complaned that nBC cut to Kate Snow for a special report before he skated. Maybe it was the Kobe death.

I seen ABC's handling of Kobe Bryant's death and for viewers outside of Los Angeles during the AFC Vs. NFC game, ABC went with segments from ABC News for some of the football plays and from ESPN Pundits in other cases during ABC's initial coverage of Kobe's death.

Per a post on Facebook WVIT aired Kelly Clarkson and Ellen on COZI TV. Some loser on their Facebook Page said it was "UnAmerican" for them to encourage people to watch something else instead of the "trial."
Who wants to watch the trial? It's boring. Even those who think it's important say so.

It’s still significantly newsworthy however. As such, the networks with significant news investments and operations, are justified in covering something of this historic nature. Not everything of importance is sexy infotainment.

Fellow O&O WNBC has never been moving Kelly or Ellen to COZI; only Days. However, WABC moves Rachael Ray to Live Well Network (changing to Localish next month) every day it is at least partially pre-empted.

Today's coverage officially ended around the same time on all three networks. ABC signed off exactly at 3:00, CBS around 3:01, and NBC around 3:05 with a proper sign-off from Lester Holt instead of a "stations may now switch to programming" message.

Actually, it looks like WNBC along with WVIT and the other O&O's began moving Kelly and Ellen to COZI starting last Friday: https://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/loc...n-catch-them-on-cozi-starting-friday/2264601/

Today's coverage lasted until 4:00 on ABC and CBS, and officially until about 5:00 on NBC according to a feed of WTHR Indianapolis, but most switched to programming at 4:00, including WVIT this time.

Tonight is Michigan's State of the State. Two of the Big Three affiliates in the Detroit market will be airing it from 7-8 Eastern.

WDIV/NBC is pre-empting Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! entirely.

WXYZ/ABC is pre-empting a local newscast and The List, although the latter re-airs anyway at 2:07 AM.

WWJ/CBS is not airing the address, sticking with two episodes of Family Feud.

Not a huge surprise since WWJ TV doesn't have a news department.

A story on WJBK Fox 2's website indicates the station will run the State of the State, although the program listings I just checked did not show it.

Turns out there's another station on the "Pre-empt Wheel of Fortune with Super Bowl Hype" bandwagon. KQTV in KC neighbor market St. Joseph (ABC) is airing a special on the Chiefs tonight at 6:30 Central, and WOF is not airing at all (even though they still aired two Jeopardys today back-to-back), and this change for today does not reflect in the listings.

As for the other side of the Super Bowl, San Fran doesn't appear to be airing any 49ers hype specials on their local stations outside of their newscasts. Sometimes the city that hosts the event airs specials as well. Last year, WXIA Atlanta bumped WOF to sister WATL for the entire week leading up to SB. This year, Miami doesn't seem to be airing any specials on the weekdays, although they do have an hour-long special on WPLG/ABC Saturday at 7:00, pre-empting the Saturday reruns of WOF and Jeopardy!, which is understandable.

I wouldn't mind commentary, but play-by-play coverage gets boring fast.

Maybe I should start a thread but when there was a basketball game on my usual radio station, I didn't even have NPR for this reason. I actually listened to Sean Hannity.

KQTV did it again today, skipping WOF two days in a row, with no "option" to make up the episodes because of its prime access time slot restriction. WOF will be back on the schedule tomorrow though, according to KQTV's ops manager.

KSHB, KC's NBC affiliate, is also airing Chiefs hype specials and have been doing so all week at 6:30 Central, although they air local news at that time, so no programming is affected this week. However, they are also airing a two-hour Chiefs special on Saturday from 6-8 Central, with the latter hour replacing one of two reruns of Dateline.

CBS's impeachment coverage only lasted until 3:30 Eastern today. WCBS JIP'd Dr. Phil halfway through, but fans can catch the full show anyway when it re-airs on sister WLNY at 8:00.

The other two networks were the same as yesterday - 4:00 for ABC and most NBC's who opted to end the coverage. Not sure how long the extra coverage lasted since my feed of WTHR wasn't working today but I imagine it went to 5:00 as usual. WVIT switched to news at 4:00 again and probably will from now on.

ABC and CBS didn't air any impeachment coverage today, at least not nationally. A Price is Right fan in Sacramento said KOVR pre-empted it today, however.

NBC's entire coverage was optional. As a result, some stations aired Days today while others did not. NBC gave two opportunities for stations to switch to programming, at 3:00 and 4:00 Eastern.

WXIA Atlanta did not air any coverage at all today. WNBC New York aired the coverage until 3:00, although Ellen was already programmed for 4.2 COZI, so it aired on both stations, and both Kelly and Ellen were properly listed on COZI today instead of the usual shows. WVIT Hartford aired the coverage until 4:00. WTHR Indianapolis, WDIV Detroit, and WCBD Charleston, SC all aired the coverage until 5:00. WBBH Fort Myers and WILX Lansing, MI both ended the coverage at 2:00 Eastern and switched to Dr. Oz. KTAL Shreveport, LA and KYTV Springfield, MO did not air the first hour of coverage in favor of local news, but did switch to it at 1:00 Central and did not air Days.
