Cumulus Cuts In Oklahoma City Include Wild 104.9 Morning Show

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...klahoma-city-include-wild-104-9-morning-show/

There are reports that Cumulus has removed staff members in Oklahoma City due to cuts and layoffs

Cumulus Media made a round of cuts at their Oklahoma City cluster last week.

The “Wild Wake Up” morning show at Rhythmic CHR “Wild 104.9” KKWD hosted by Mike Ipong, Maggie Flores and producer Beartoe has been eliminated as the station picks up the syndicated Bert Show with at least Ipong exiting. Ipong joined KKWD in 2015 after previously serving as a producer at Hot AC “Kiss 98.9” KYIS. Flores had joined the show in 2018 after serving as a receptionist, producer and weekend host at KYIS.

It wasn’t just KOKC, apparently, either. Hearing Kent Jones was let go at KOMA, too.

Wow, that's too bad on both the KOKC situation and with Kent Jones. I enjoyed listening to Kent Jones, and also liked tuning in to the afternoon "Ride" on KOKC. I tuned in KOKC on the way home from work and was surprised to hear a syndicated show that wasn't fantastic, to say the least.

I was pretty shocked to hear KOMA apparently cut Kent Jones. He's been on that station since it went to oldies and was just on 1520. Since 100.9 in Tulsa switched to 80's, he's been doing middays there. I haven't listened to KTSO in a few weeks. So, I don't know if he was there or not today. He still shows on the website, though.

I hear a few other people around Tyler were let go today as well.

I remember about 20 years ago when KKWD was on 97.9 and the signal barely covered the metro but the station sounded great. They always gave KJYO a run for their money and even beat them at times in certain demos. They were very well programmed with good jocks and imaging. The station was on fire! When they switched to the 104.9 frequency they were never the same again. Different programmers, new company, poor signal, etc. I'm surprised the station has lasted this long. But I don't ever like to hear of budget cuts. It's not the jocks' faults. If Cumulus really wanted to win they would've put the format on a stronger signal. A 2 share is about the most you can ask for when you have to be outdoors or in the car to pick them up.
