Ranch 93.3 Debuts In East Tennessee

I actually picked this up last week in Maryville. It sounds solid when it's there. Problem is the 93.1 HD signal tends to block it out most places. If 93.1 shuts off there HD to do some maintenance, I'm sure it would come in pretty well. I also tried to tune in on WIHG HD4 but that stupid translator in Knoxville interferes. I can't believe they haven't got that thing shut down yet.

What's the deal with this anyway? I'm assuming this falls at the feet of the folks at 1340 but why was that Translator even approved? Does this fall in line with something that looks good on paper but not actually?

Really? I can't hear 93.3 at all in Maryville. I can get a trace of it in West Knoxville but it's not even close to listenable. As for WIHG and the translator issue, don't get me started on that. Somehow the interference complaints were denied and WKGN did nothing to address the issue.

The FCC is taking listener complaints less into account outside the station's immediate coverage area. WIHG was never guaranteed coverage of Knoxville, their signal is for the Rockwood and Crossville areas. I said at the outset "rimshots hardest hit". OTOH we have WQUT back, at least for now.

The first day I found the station it seemed pretty decent signal wise. Now I can occasionally hear it but like I said it is mostly blocked by 93.1 HD. I would say its impossible to get in Knoxville because of that. I'm using an aftermarket Pioneer HD car stereo if that makes a difference with signal. Speaking of the 105.7 translator again (I know it's slightly off topic) I had WIHG HD kick in a few weeks ago driving past UT hospital. I was looking directly at Sharps Ridge and was hearing clear audio from the translator before the HD kicked in. I find this insane.

I flipped over to 580 today to hear the classic country format and was treated to Ozzy Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.” No Ranch on 580. They are airing a simulcast of 105.7 The Hog. I’m not sure what’s on 93.3 as I still can’t receive it.

Right after Christmas 580 was running oldies and IDing as "WIHG H4". It is interesting that no one in Knoxville has an HD2 but WIHG has several muti-casts, for all 3 people who can get them .

I was able to pick up WIHG-HD sitting in the parking lot at Dairy Queen in Maryville. Usually works in spots around that area. WIHG-HD2 is airing 94.1 The Vibe, HD3 is airing 93.3 The Ranch, and HD4 is airing Spirit 101.9. I'm not exactly sure why they purchased the 2 am stations if they are feeding the translators via HD signals. Is 1410 still airing The Vibe? I can't check from Maryville.

Last I checked (last week) 1410, weak signal as it is in South Knoxville, was still airing The Vibe. I'm a little puzzled as well about the purchase of particularly 580, and why bother running a simulcast of The Hog. Theoretically it regains a little bit of the coverage lost to the 105.7 translators in Knoxville, bit it's not like much of anyone knows about the AM or cares.

Honestly, they should get a permit to move 580 as close to Knoxville as they can even if it's on a different frequency. That would allow 580 to run a translator in the Knoxville market if there is any room available. Maybe purchase one in the area since they seem to like to buy signals lately. I doubt all that would happen. That's just an idea if they truly care about Knoxville area coverage of WIHG. It would great if they could gets their hands on 92.7 WIJV that runs the 94.7 translator on Sharpes Ridge.

94.7 technically relays 1240 but the AM would probably go in any sale with 92.7, which has had some form of Knoxville translator since I've been in the area.

Listened this afternoon, and 580 is again 93.3 the Ranch, with liners that mention both 580 and 92.7.

They used to own it. In fact 92.7 was The Hog and 105.7 was WLSQ. They sold 92.7 and the translator (which was on 107.3 at the time) to the Christian owners who have it now.

It would depend what the "feeding" station for 93.3 is. If it's the HD channel, no problem, the AM can switch by the minute. If the AM is the legal station being translated, definitely not legal. I don't get the switching back and forth.

Today it's running 105.7 again. I feel like that might not be legal to switch back and forth like that.
