Joe Piscopo #1-rated morning show?

Kevin McCullough, filling in for Joe Piscopo this morning, said that “he believes” Piscopo has the most listeners of all morning radio shows—Is this even close to being accurate?

You asked this question in 2017 and 2018.

People will believe what they want to believe. That goes for everything you hear on that station, including this belief.

If they believe it to be true, why not register the station with Nielsen where the public can see the ratings?

Needs to be an * after that claim....as in "Joe Piscopo #1 rated morning host*

Horrible 4 hours

Horrible 4 hours of a show nothing but laughter, traffic, commercials every 5 minutes, clueless show its pathetic

So which is it... "nearly no sponsors" or "commercials every 5 minutes"? These seem to be contradictory, unless they're running a parade of PSAs.

Most of the commercials run for free as part of network buys, as I’m told by someone knowledgeable about the matter. The show has few actual sponsors and new sponsors quickly disappear.

Compare the quality of the spots on WINS with the ones you hear on Piscopo. Do you hear anyone at WINS say they're sold out?

Those commercials do not "run for free".

Most network and syndicated programs run at no cash cost to a station affiliate. Instead, they give the network or show a number of minutes per hour of commercial time to run the ads the network sells to its clients.

Sometimes the ads run in the network content, and sometimes they run throughout the day on the station that takes the network services. In the case of some network affiliate agreements, a station can choose not to run all the network shows, but may have to run all the spots.

From that, the network pays the talent, production and distribution costs and attempts to make a profit.

But nothing is "free".

More listeners than other Salem conservative talk stations' morning shows maybe. I haven't heard how Hugh Hewitt, the network morning show on SRN Talk does nationally, but it's a pretty dry show by an 'establishment' conservative at a time when their stock is down among conservative listeners.

How does the Piscopo arrangement work? If WNYM is running the network ad inventory that would otherwise clear during Hugh Hewitt's national show, then they aren't losing any revenue (or clearance bragging rights) there, but who's paying for Piscopo? Is he buying time or is he a WNYM employee?

I believe that most non-Salem network hosts on Salem Talk affiliates buy the time. This was the case in Philly for years on WNTP where Laura Ingraham, Michael Savage and Mark Levin's networks bought time for them to have Philadelphia clearances.
