Tejano on 88.1??

I’m on Tidwell and Fulton was listening to Radio Aleluya. And it went off the air for a few seconds and you could hear a Bobby Pullido song.

Is there a station close to Houston that is playing Tejano on 88.1?

Did it ever occur to you that maybe you passed someone with a personal FM transmitter in their car? After all, 88-89 MHz are the most popular frequencies that these devices use. And most default to 88.1 out of the box.

Excellent observation! My $5 bet is on your position!

RADIO ALELUYA is on 88.1.

Why would anyone use 88.1 on their FM TRANSMITTER??

Because 88.1 isin Pasadena on a short tower with limited coverage..doesn't get to NW or N areas of Metro Houston...SW side, it's signal is not that strong but it's there.

It sounds very good on FULTON and TIDWELL no the little FM transmitter wouldn’t sound good on 88.1.

I had one of those and I couldn’t use it on 88.1.

Like I said earlier, most of these personal devices default to 88.1 or 87.9. Most people won't change the settings if it works out of the box. Blocking out a 700 watt station at that distance is doable if you never go into Pasadena.

Back in the days before Bluetooth, I had an FM transmitter for iPods that could use the entire FM band. It had no issues taking on stations such as 89.3, 107.5, 106.9 or 91.7 inside the loop. Blocking a station such as 88.1 was a breeze.

Also, how in the hell was my last comment a personal attack? Seriously?!? (facepalm)

No facepalm required BamaTX, I'd bet that the MASS WARNING about Nasty Comments was probably a co-incident posting regarding some other nutcase using not-so-pleasant language, so RadioDiscussions.com felt compelled to warn us all, so we'll all be Nicey-Nicey in the future.
--- Hopefully, Frank or David can provide some insight . . .

Frank or David should enlighten us since I don’t think everyone got this ‘MASS WARNING’ that you mention.

Quite true. The Radio Aleluya signal is poor over most of Houston metro, and an in-car modulator on 88.1 will have no trouble overriding it unless you are in Pasadena (KFTG) or the Katy area (K201EU which runs the same thing.) I've also come across some car modulators overriding some local LPFM frequencies.

If you drive around town, tune to 87.9 and see what comes in. I have done that a couple of times on my evening commute from near downtown to Cy-Fair, and have heard a few of these modulators. One time (while checking for the ***FM pirate) I found R&B music on 87.9...but it was being interrupted by an electronic voice giving Waze driving directions. This went on for a while, so obviously a nearby car going the same direction and speed as I was.

Only got it one time on log-in, it was inside the yellow box at the top, not there now. Maybe it was posted by error or for a brief time.

The warning was up for a period after several postings were both offensive and deviated into pure politics unrelated to radio. Also note that there can be notices on many message boards that will show one time for each registered site member and then not show again.

This is a good moment to mention that "pure politics" is not allowed. Discussion of political and election coverage and programs and talk shows on radio and TV are permitted, as long as they do not involve offensive language in a partisan context. There are many political sites,, boards and discussion groups; this is not one of them.
