Buddy Brings Canada to Buffalo

I know that they CAN subscribe. I asked if they do. It's curious that in another thread Buddy was railing against Nielsen. He said he planned to end his Nielsen subscription for WECK because he thinks the ratings are bogus...

I did not say we were getting Neilson. I said we can. Enough of the back and forth. I’ve got it from here.

Yes, on occasion. Interesting, the Canadian FM station that shows up more consistently is 97.7 Hits FM CHTZ out of St. Catharines, Ontario. On the other hand, although it has a great signal, Giant 91.7 CIXL doesn't show very often. Those who live in the north towns can hear Canadian FMs out of Toronto as if the CN Tower was in their back yard. Because it just about is.

Correct. Here's a list of the stations that use the CN Tower as their antenna: CJRT(Jazz FM 91), CBL-FM(94.1), CHBM(Boom 97.3), CHFI(98.1), CKFM(99.9 Virgin Radio), CHIN(100.7), CFNY(102.1 the Edge), CHUM 104.5 and CILQ(Q 107).

More correctly both beam across the Niagara River to reach Buffalo. CFLZ and CJED are both in Niagara Falls, ON. Neither one impacts US ratings in a meaningful way. A few years back the Canadian feds got their shorts in a bunch over joint marketing between then Citadel stations and a Canadian "partner". This may be treading on shaky ground.

Small point of order: CFLZ is licensed to Fort Erie, and CJED is licensed to Niagara Falls, Ont.; if memory serves, both stations have their studios in Niagara Falls.

The most recent Buffalo Nielsen report doesn't list a single Canadian station. They either don't subscribe or are below a 0.2 share--Or maybe Nielsen doesn't include them on the public numbers anymore. A US client buying time on any of these stations would certainly need other reasons than ratings...

If you are basing your statement on the public 12+ Nielsen release, they do not include non-subscribers.

And there are new policies since the middle of last year for the data that subscribers view: non-subscribed stations are not shown if they have a rating of less than 0.1. So to show in the subscriber data release, the stations would have to have around a 1 share.

Again, we don’t subscribe....yet. However, we know what the numbers are. Little birdies told me
