Advertisers exploiting Coronavirus

The ubiquitous radio advertiser Balance Of Nature, notorious for wild and unsubstantiated claims of curing numerous afflictions, has been exploiting the Coronavirus panic, at least on am970 and sister station am570, with infomercials and related advertisements featuring company owner “Dr.” Howard discussing the benefits of good nutrition in preventing the Coronavirus, with the obvious implication that Balance Of Nature is an effective preventative for the virus.

Not to be outdone, Mark Simone on WOR is stepping up to the plate by promoting My Pillow for the Coronavirus arsenal, as adequate sleep is recommended for a strong immune system to guard against the virus.

Absolutely shameless.

This manufacturer and others have been ordered by the FDA to stop advertising their products as a "cure" for COVID-19.

Damn and this is when the CDC, FDA and multiple Governors have announced in their State of Emergency address saying there is no cure for COVID-19 as of 2020. If COVID-19 vaccines and antivirals exist they are currently waiting for FDA approval and the results of the clinical trials.

Coronavirus is in the air and on the air on WOR today which broadcast an infomercial for the notorious supplement company Balance Of Nature hosted by Salem talk show host Kevin McCullough in which company owner “Dr.” Howard claimed that the product can help prevent Coronavirus by increasing white blood cells and strengthening the immune system. Of course, no independent substantiation for these claims.

Salem Media, a “Christian” media company, is a media partner with Balance Of Nature that purports to prevent Coronavirus by increasing white blood cells. Absolutely no reputable independent research to support their claims. God, help us!

Yes we know. Religious people have been known to do bad things.

The biggest step in combating these frauds isn't just AM radio. It's with the internet too.

Because on over the air radio/TV, a fake "cure" for something is more likely to get the FDA/FCC smackdown than the internet. Jim Bakker is seen on Daystar TV and Alex Jones still has a few OTA affiliates that aren't Part 15 block rockers. And of course, Salem, Genesis Communications, USA, etc., etc. that peddle all kinds of pills.

Trouble is, you could take it off the radio and TV and it will go straight to the dark web and paid for in Bitcoin. And this is exactly what they will do (those warehouses of this "Colloidal Silver MMS" crap just aren't going to clear themselves.) Either way, hospitals still deal with the fallout from all of it. And radio is just a speed bump compared to the internet.

If there's one upside to all this, it's going to inspire some long overdue re-thinking on these phony pill pushers allowed to run amok on the airwaves and the internet for far too long.

Alex Jones is now under investigation for advertising products that claim to stop COVID-19.

Apparently the My Pillow guy is about to introduce a cure for COVID. He has HUD head Ben Carson and the president aboard:

So far no virologists have signed on. I'm sure Dr. Phil will join soon. Maybe Dr. Dre. Trust me...I'm a doctor.

The experimental botanical extract, oleandrin, was promoted to Trump during an Oval Office meeting in July. It's embraced by Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson and MyPillow founder and CEO Mike Lindell, a big Trump backer, who recently took a financial stake in the company that develops the product.

Coming soon to a radio station near you.
