Noticed there was heavy DXing on the FM side this evening especially to the east. Augusta and Greenville stations were very clear. Most notable was WROQ 101.1 Greenville, WBBQ 104.3 in Augusta, WLUB 105.7 in Augusta, WFBC 93.7 Greenville, WSPA 98.9 Greenville. So what special conditions in the troposphere tonight caused this?

Wow. Thank you. This is a very informative website. I thought I was going crazy last night when I heard Delilah on the FM dial again. But then it was her on WBBQ. It’s times like these when I seek stations in other markets where I really would like for us to have a soft AC formatted station here in Atlanta.
Yeah... Pretty insane too because WBBQ transmitter is actually located near Aiken, SC in a tiny village called Spiderweb, SC. The town name was coined due to the fact that many Augusta area radio and TV transmitters are all located there. And all the guyed wires crisscross each other in that one spot.... ('Spiderweb'). Lol
Non related to Atlanta, but I noticed this furthur up in Knoxville area that same day. We share some frequencies with adjacent Chattanooga market and I was getting their stations blending over our stations. I'm 10-20 miles from each of the local stations. Those I noticed most was 92.3, 93.1, 94.3, 95.3, 95.7, 98.1 and especially 100.7 WUSY-HD coming in strong.
WBBQ is broadcasting from a very tall tower if I'm not mistaken.
78 kw at 1400 feet.
Decent height, power a bit under 100 kw.

WBBQ-FM used to be 100 kw. iHeart decreased their power to 78 kw not that long ago in order to increase the coverage of another iHeart property. WBBQ has a high HAAT of 1,430 feet. Frankly, I doubt anyone anywhere near Augusta noticed when they reduced their power.
WBBQ is on the WXFG/FOX 54 tower. It's about a half mile from the cluster of towers for the other Augusta TV stations. The WFXG/WBBQ tower is in back of a church; I don't know whether the church owns the land. (The congregants must get their share of RF.)
I suppose the WBBQ and WFXG people are good friends. Their studio buildings used to be next to each other. In fact, iHeart had 2 buildings that were strictly studios in Augusta by virtue of having acquired the stations. Everything is now consolidated where the iHeart Augusta offices are.
