Greetings & Questions From Boston,

I'm looking for any and all information about Northeast Broadcasting (Boston-area station WXRV). Does anyone know what shape the company is in? Who the owner is? Any positive stories will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jack2525

hello

The group is owned by Stephen Silberberg,it is headquarted in Bedford Nh

Steve Silberg is known as a control freak who is very difficult to work for. However, XRV doesn't seem to have a huge turnover.

I hear the salaries for the on air staff are on the very low side Some of the sales people do well if they have good accounts in Sothern N.H

some very good on-air and production talent has walked in and out of those doors over the past ten years. they left not so much because of the low salary ball but because the station just refuses to move forward and be pro-active promotionally and marketing-wise in the boston market.

and these are folks with major-market programming experience and success, some with good hearts and egos, who see the potential the River has to be hugely successful in this market if River management would rely less on its consultants, er, "insultants" and develop a solid business plan that works for this market. and I'm not talking about a major ratings boon - just simply carving a niche and building a strong, loyal audience in the boston market that will keep them in the 2's every book.

river management has never and will never encourage or reward that kind of hard work and insight.

Maybe "rewards for hard work and insight" are secondary to keeping money in their safe deposit box, as well as their IRA's? ;)

I don't know how you came to your conclusion....but, XRV seems to have a VERY high turnover!

How many PD's have they had? Where's Dana Marshall? Where's Joanne Doody? What happenned to their morning man (who was there such a short time I didn't even catch his name!) What happenned to their Chief engineer?

The only one that seems to have staying power is Bob Stuart. (God Bless 'em!)

Joann Doody was there for a while and Steve Aldepson (sic)) the GM/Sales Manager was there for ever.

I think they have a loyal listner base but the owner is afriad to spend any money trying to capture a bigger audience when they are very close in format to WBOS

Awhile...but was then forced out...

Where is Steve Aldepson?

What about the other people?

Northeast Broadcasting aka: Incredible Edibles....

"They chew you up and spit you out..."

WXRV Midday jock fired

Carolyn Morrell very abruptly fired Wednesday. She did that shift for 9 years - no severance. Nothing.

After all these years, the owner remains despicable.

nothing that goes on there surprises me, I have never heard one good thing said about the people that own it.

It is going to be interesting to see how they make payroll with advertising going into the tank due to the current ( for those reading this years from now please reference news events from March 2020 for context) situation.

They might have some cash set aside from the recent sale of their Athol MA station ( calls were WFNX, not to be confused with the real WFNX of years gone by) to hold them over for the short term, but I doubt the owners are going to take any profit and use it to prop up payroll.

Maybe they should bring back Beautiful Music 92.5 WHAV-FM.....??!!

Or WLYT "Light 92.5" for that matter. But when they had abandoned that back then, there were at at least 3 other Adult Contemporary radio stations around at the time also. WSSH, WVBF, and of course WMJX!
