ESPN wants to bring Al Michaels to MNF.

ESPN will "attempt to acquire" NBC broadcaster Al Michaels for their Monday Night Football telecast in 2020, according to the New York Post's Andrew Marchand.

The network would like to pair Michaels–who currently leads NBC's Sunday Night Football telecast–with former Colts and Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. ESPN is now reportedly eyeing Manning as its "top choice" after Tony Romo signed a 10-year contract with CBS on Feb 28.
There is little guarantee of the 75-year-old Michaels changing networks despite Thursday's report. Talks between NBC and ESPN "have yet to begin," and Michaels still has two years remaining on his contract, per Marchand. If Michaels is granted a potential move to ESPN, Mike Tirico will be slated as his replacement.

Michaels' current contract will end in 2022. He could call his last game for NBC in February 2022 at the Super Bowl in Los Angeles if he does not leave for ESPN or retire early.
This would be a huge get if ESPN can pull it off. But NBC still has him under contract for 2 more years.

I think Al's getting too old to call games, i think he should stay at NBC for the remainder of his contract and opt to retire at the end of his SNF contract instead of taking a offer to rejoin ESPN/ABC even if ESPN makes a deal to move MNF back to ABC for the higher profile games but keep it on ESPN on the lower profile games that clearly gonna get poor ratings as well as simicast the bigger games on ESPN for max ratings.

I think Al is happy where he is. And NBC might not even let him out of his contract.

Joe Tessitore was a sports anchor at WFSB-TV (CBS) channel 3 of Hartford. Safe to say I don't miss him!

If Al Michaels goes back to Disney, does Oswald the Rabbit go back to NBC/Universal?

This is also a reminder that some of the announcers we are used to seeing are getting up there in age. Is Michaels a long-term solution for ESPN?

IIRC Sean asked for a new assignment at ESPN first, before heading to the Sox.

That's a good question. ESPN had Sean McDonough two years ago. He was the logical successor to Mike Tirico.

Sean instead returned to the Red Sox. What was wrong with Sean? Not glamorous enough?

What is his role with the Red Sox? He's not lead announcer.

I can't imagine that Al Michaels would want to leave NBC for a cable company, even since he has been on NBC since 2006, and he was also with them from 1971 to 1974, in less he has decided that he is sick and tired of doing games on Sunday nights, or if ESPN gives him a very good offer, and NBC lets him walk. While he has bene primally a football annocuer, he has called other sports including baseball and hockey, including the famous Miracle on Ice game.
