Meredith and CBS announce affiliation deals

https://tvnewscheck.com/article/top-news/246563/viacomcbs-meredith-set-affiliation-renewals/
Here are the affected stations. WGCL Atlanta (DMA 10); KPHO Phoenix, Ariz. (11); KMOV St. Louis (23); KCTV Kansas City, Mo. (32); WFSB Hartford-New Haven, Conn. (33); WNEM Flint-Saginaw-Bay City, Mich. (77); and WSHM Springfield-Holyoke, Mass. (111).

The renewal of WGCL is kind of surprising. I had read on the Atlanta TV board that CBS isn't happy with the ratings of WGCL's Newscasts and wanted to yank the affiliation from them and put it on their own Channel 69, which is the CW station in that market.

I'm not sure if I would say its surprising because while yes, WGCL's newscast ratings are still bad, they're actually improving in the ratings and now a definite #3 in the market because TEGNA pretty much ruined WXIA/WATL to their cores enough where its now at #4.

They were going to put CBS on 69 in 1994 when WAGA dropped it for Fox, which was why they bought the channel to begin with, because WGCL (then WGNX) was reluctant to pick up CBS. WATL might’ve made the most sense but they didn’t already have news and cancelled plans to start news once they lost Fox to WAGA. They wanted no part of CBS. Big mistake in the long run, IMO.

But CBS is probably better off on WGCL than WUPA.
