NBC Owned Stations Expand Local Newscasts

I have a very long and exhaustive, but extensive list that showcases the affiliates doing this. There are also two FOX, one ABC and one CBS affiliate(s) that I've noticed that have also added newscasts in the interim as a result of the outbreak.

Would you like to see the list? I've been compiling it myself.

I’ve seen it....really surprised that only one ABC and only one CBS affiliate has expanded newscasts. CBS affiliates can’t really expand midday news because of Y&R but no reason why ABC and Fox affiliates can’t.

I've actually found another ABC and CBS and at least two FOX affiliates actually expanding temporarily. My list is getting bigger.

Interesting that KNSD San Diego is the only O&O that isn't airing news at 7:00. They're the only NBC O&O that carries the Jeopardy!/Wheel of Fortune duo at their signature 7:00 ET/PT hour. Most if not all of the other O&O's have Access Hollywood and its companion All Access in that hour. Since J!/WOF are more successful and highly-rated, maybe they figure it's not worth pre-empting either of them for a week; when one or both do get pre-empted on KNSD, they either move to 7.2 Cozi TV or they don't air at all.

So far this week, WNBC New York has only aired a 7:00 newscast on Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Access Hollywood aired at 7:00 as normal. However, they have been repeating NBC Nightly News at 7:30 all this week in addition to its usual 6:30 airing, pre-empting All Access.

WVIT Hartford, which normally has the same programming as WNBC, has been airing the 7:00 newscasts all week, and is moving Access Hollywood to 7:30, though it is still listed as All Access.

A late night live update, not a repeat of the 6:30 ET taping. Kind of like the old CBS Sunday Night News, except every weeknight.

If people don't watch it at 6:30 why would they tune in at 11:35. Nightline is an established show. The other networks won't get any new late night news viewers.

Not here, the only station here showing news at 11:30 is ABC Nightline.

That's there, but if they're seeing that's not of strong interest from their affiliates overall (and let's not pretend discussions of that type don't take place regularly), then it may not be worth it to them. They have MSNBC in the stable already. ABC doesn't have that kind of name recognition or distribution with their digital platform. Moving Nightline back to 11:35 makes sense for them; less so for NBC at the moment.

FOX4KC did expand to 6:30pm on Saturdays even with MLB on hold or just for today and on Weekdays all they can do is replace Robbins with a Newscast. KMBC can taje CV Virus special spot if it's not their own with their own. KCTV5 could on KSMOTV replacing temporary Locker Room Show 7pm and repeat Newscast 7:30pm with Live Newscast. KSHB 3pm Newscast starting Monday and could bring back temporary 9pm on KMCI and move 5pm over to KMCI and make it an hour and give 5pm to NBC for an hour Virus special.

Same story for Thursday and Friday.

Next week, 7:00 reverts to Access Hollywood on both WNBC and WVIT, but WNBC will continue repeating Nightly News at 7:30 until at least April 10. Listings for All Access show the program completely absent from WNBC until the 13th.

I imagine that since the briefing usually runs to 7 or later that the 7:30 repeat may have a new top, containing the latest information.

Wood TV is airing specials on Coronavirus 11:30PM & 11:30AM with former WXMI Fox17 news anchor Michelle DeSelms who is the Wood TV community strategy manager as one they had left for a job in Miami local Spanish TV station. Fox17 airs Conronavirus special at 7PM which they put Modern Family repeat at 12:30AM still airs Modern Family at 7:30PM. Friends only gets 1 EP at 1AM use to be a full hour at 12:30AM to 1:30AM.
