southern soul on 780

WIIN Jackson.MS left its transmitter on all night last night I wonder if anyone caught it, and if so, where did you hear it? It calls itself Blues 93.1. But lately has been mostly southern soul and less traditional blues.

I heard WIIN last night here in San Antonio - a new logging for me at 537 miles. The station is on again tonight, and it covers WBBM at times.

West Central Georgia:

Heard WIIN Jackson MS behind WBBM last night here in Georgia. Not enough to cover WBBM, but can hear it if you turn the radio to null WBBM.

Orange County, TX-0500CDT-Seems like WBBM is having problems as they keep playing a promo then dead air and then I'm hearing soul music presumably WIIN, about 90 minutes before their legal sign on time-0630 CDT. 0514 they are back with their usual strong signal.

No chance of hearing it OTA here in Connecticut, but I've been listening to the stream and love the new direction the station is taking. Good blend of old and new, and great to see some younger artists making classic Southern soul sounds. Does WIIN have decent advertiser support or is it just another struggling music AM feeding an FM translator?

I heard exactly the same thing here this morning between 5:00-5:30am...

I was on one of the Alabama SDRs last night around 9pm CDT, parked on 780. I thought I'd hear WIIN, but instead it was all WBBM.

I wonder if WBBM has complained about this station being on 24hrs? I wonder if anybody at the FCC cares?

If WIIN's only impact is in areas that are worth precisely zero ad dollars to WBBM, WBBM probably isn't terribly concerned. The FCC? Probably likewise. No harm, no foul.

Wait till we get a Springtime auroral night. WIIN can override WBBM inside the Loop in Chicago under the right conditions

In Cleveland, long ago, I had a 10 kw Venezuelan at equal level with 1100 KYW one evening. I was less than 30 miles from the KYW site, too. One of the few times I ever saw traces of the aurora over Lake Erie, too.

If that's the case then what is the point of having any rules to follow? Every station should just operate any hours that they want.

They now have quite a few advertisers. They used to have none. They would never keep a format very long. And it either had technical issues or was often off the air. Most the people in their target audience is most likely listening to the FM translator even though it is flea powered, it can still reach a little into the suburbs if you have a really good radio. At my location I can only hear the AM station. I noticed it showed up in the ratings recently. The last few times I've listened to it there is some horrible distortion in the audio especially in loud or bass heavy passages. The signal is much better than previous formats. I think in the past they just didn't care what it sounded like. But they need to fix that distortion. and the sssibilence issue.
