FOX would change to KQDS Duluth Sept 1, 99 when they became the FOX affiliate. There is a translator for KQDS across the river/state line in Hurley (has been there since the beginning)

I think WGKI/WFQX (which had replaced WKBD when that station lost the FOX affiliation to WJBK) remained on cable in Ironwood (and most of the western and central UP) until 2003, when WMQF came on the air and inherited cable channel 2. WLUK was added at some point in the late 1990s/early 2000s for the sole purpose of getting the Packers on cable (WGKI/WFQX and WMQF aired Lions games while KQDS aired Vikings games; I also think WLUC picked up a secondary FOX affiliation for the Packers at one point).

I saw somewhere that Duluth had Foxnet on cable prior to KQDS coming on. I wonder if Ashland, WI had Foxnet or WGKI pre-KQDS (Ashland did have WKBD on cable before that station lost FOX).

I remember WMQF Marquette. I picked them up on free to air satellite when Equity Broadcasting owned them.

yes Duluth had FOXNet before KQDS signed on. I was living in Duluth in 1999 and remember that. Why they didnt pipe in WFTC Minneapolis was beyond me. At the time KBJR (NBC) was picking up the Vikings games after they lost the AFC package to CBS in 98. When CBS lost football KDLH was the secondary affiliate of the Vikes IIRC (it could have been WDIO ABC).

Looking at the way back machine in 1999 (before KQDS signed on) Ashland got Foxnet also.
