Released today, and some big jumps for the news stations.

KYW Surges back into #3 6+ with their best share in a long while.
WHYY also up to some of their highest ratings I can remember. (And #6 overall!)
Apparently Philadelphians want News, and not opinion, as 1210 WPHT slips

Cume was down across the board, except for KYW (up big) and WHYY (up slightly.)

Outside of that, can we really use these numbers as any real comparison? We know regular listening is off, and will be off for a long time. Will this show us a base line of what people will tune into to get informed, and what they'll tune into to escape the news?

On some other boards, posters have wondered how the recorded overnights would affect the ratings. Obviously not at all. Speaking for myself, staying home all day means I'm sleeping more, and so I don't care what radio does overnights.

Also it looks like BEN has recovered completely.

Honest question.... do overnights get counted into the overall 6+ ratings? Or is the listenership so minuscule there anyway, that it wouldn't really cause any great rises or falls?

Overnights are indeed rated, both in the diary and PPM. But for the PPM, you have to create a "custom" report (which is very easy) because there is no standard Midnight to 6 AM daypart in the metered system

The overnight period is not included in the full week averages which are covered in the publicly released data. That is just the 6 AM to Midnight, Monday to Sunday.

A majority of radio ad buys are 6 AM to 7 PM, Monday to Friday. Some include Saturday. A few include Sundays, too. But most buys don't include weekends and nights. And I've never seen one that was based on 12+, so here, again we see why Nielsen gives away the 12+ data: it is worthless.

I don't see any changes, minor or major, until... probably... we have a vaccine for the Coronavirus. All efforts are being spent on keeping companies and stations alive, not on looking for a facelift.

I forgot to mention that if you averaged overnights into the full week, all the sales metrics like rating and AQH persons would go way down making radio look worse.

Share is generally not used for ratings based sales.

I certainly hope that's not true. AIDS has been around since 1976 and has killed millions and we still don't have a vaccine for it.

We do however have preventative treatments such that one can live with the disease, if the treatments are administered for a lifetime and preventative behavior is adopted.

I suspect that treatments for COVID-19 symptoms will become commonly available before a vaccine is available to be distributed. Some behavior modifications will be necessary among susceptible populations until people have acquired virus antibodies or treatments prove effective for the elderly and those with underlying conditions. The vaccine will come later.

Hopefully life in the radio world and elsewhere gets back to some semblance of normalcy before a vaccine is available.
