March '20 ratings

(All info is noted from AllAccess.com . I'll summarize it and let others go more in-depth.)

So....the March 2020 book is out. Major notes:

*WBLK is still on top.
*WYRK has recovered nicely from the disastrous slide in the fall, moving to almost where they were last October. (BTW, they also show up in the Rochester book as well!)
*97 Rock and WHTT are tied for 4th overall.
*What in the HELL happened to Star 102.5? It dropped over a point from the February book.
*WBEN is...well, WBEN. It always recovers during the winter.
*WBFO has been tracking upwards for the last few months, and gained a little bit again.
*WGR and Kiss 98.5 wind up tied.
*WECK ticks upward a bit.
 
is star 102.5 in trouble. Is star 102.5 and Kiss 98.5 basically the same in terms of the music they both play. I think Star going a little to repetitive

I don't think so, but Star is basically-in terms of its music-Kiss with the temperature turned down quite a bit.
 
I was stunned to see WBFO’s HD2 jazz station registered in the ratings. Granted, it barely gets in with a 0.1. But I have never seen an HD only station appear in the Buffalo ratings. Interesting!

The "March" (or any other named month) book is not just the 4 March weeks... in this case it is January, February and March 12 week period.

The new diary market sort-of-continuous-measurement consists of a new, weighted and usable-for-sales 12 week period. Each month, the oldest month is removed and the new, most recent one is added.

Just because the release is named for a month does not mean that it's the same as the PPM where the monthlies are each and only a 4-week, 28 day period.

Diary markets are still 12 week measurements, but each 28 days a fully weighted report is issued. Previously, we got one weighted book every quarter, and two unweighted "trend report" ones in the intervening two months. The difference now is that every report is a full, weighted one.

So you can't call the PPM reports "this month" as, simply, they are not monthlies.

With the rolling averages wouldn't Star just be returning to form after the Christmas music boost? And WGR is reflecting the loss of sports to cover. Considering how fast it's dropped, my guess is that their audience has dropped off the table since the beginning of March.

Thanks for the clarification.

AllAccess is using the last 5 months(and the current one)to show how the ratings are trending, and that's the info I used. Radio-Online uses the last 3 months and current one.

Star102.5 does not play the more urban stuff that Kiss98.5 plays. They also love to play stuff from 90’s and early 2000’s which I am not a big fan of.
 
It's Persons 12+ , but I thought the Edge would do much better. Probably does so with Men 18-49. Then again, after Shredd & Ragan wrap up, what's on. They're probably carrying the station.

Not much interest for this format in Buffalo. The playlists for The Edge and ALT Buffalo are very similar. 2 Alternative stations in a greying market like Buffalo makes little sense. The anemic ratings bear that out. Another ALT format in Atlanta just flipped to Spanish...
