New york April ratings

looking at the ratings it looks like New yorker's still want Adult Contempary and Classic Rock. Good ratings for WLTW and WAXQ. WLTW will probably get a boost when the NYC economy reopens

Hmmm...seems like the big winner is LaMega. Nice jumps for WQXR and WNYC.

Mega got a TSL bonus, but its 25-54 cume declined from about 1.1 million to around 700 thousand... more than a third!

It's AQH persons declined by "just" 25%, so it got better TSL from fewer people.

On the other hand, most music stations were severely off in AQH persons. WAXQ off by 33%, WLTW and WCBS by 50% and WHTZ by over 60% compared to February as four examples.

(I have rounded severely so as not to be revealing any actual numbers).

I think you mean they were off in cume, because Lite lost almost half of its cume from March.

No, that is in AQH persons, rounded. The cume was off, the AQH persons was off for all but a couple of stations and the rating was similarly off.

The interesting one is Mega, which lost cume considerably but nearly made up for it with long, long listening by the Dominican community. My suspicion is that its core is the least bilingual of all sub-groups so the main source of information was WSKQ for that group as WADO does not have much 18-49 appeal.

The ratings suggest people haven't flocked to WBAI for coverage of the pandemic without the mainstream media spin. That must mean the ratings are wrong. I know millions of people who listen to WBAI.

(this post dripping with sarcasm, of course)

Mega may have lost 400K, but Lite lost almost 2 million in cume. That's a big number to swallow.

Every music significant music station lost between about 35% to 55% of its cume from February to April.

Total New York 12+ cume rating declined by 25% overall. Average market rating (PUR) was off 40% compared to February.

Before PPM, the PUR was around 18 in NYC meaning 18% of all people, 6AM to Midnight average, were listening to the radio. Now it is 3.6%.

The bigger news is that people under 65 are not going to the radio for news. The only exception in NYC is with the Dominicans (who dominate severely the PPM Spanish Dominant panel) who don't have other media for NYC information.

In LA and Houston, for example, the leading personality regional Mexican stations increased share; even so they had lower listening than before the pandemic.

The younger and less ethnic a station is, the greater the loss in cume.

Per AllAccess 25-54, WNYC is #2 (behind Mega). Is that perhaps their best ranking ever?

Yes, it is more than 3 times the share they had last year in the same month.

But that is share... which is totally irrelevant and deceptive in our situation.

And overall seeing "share" is like having a better cabin on the Titanic.

WNYC's 25-54 AQH persons is statistically the same as it was in December, and just a little above January and February. WNYC's 25-54 cume is down about 13% from last December. What they have is quite a bit fewer listeners listening quite a bit more.

The big pizza gets 8 to 12 nice slices. The little one gets 4 small ones.

New York City listeners still give radio a slice. But it's smaller. A lot smaller.

Not sure why you are picking such low-hanging fruit. WBAI has always been an extreme outlier. It wasn't attracting listeners during Iran-Contra, the Gulf Wars, Rodney King, Bush-Gore or any other major socio-political kerfuffle you can name. Why would it start to do so now?
