Hybrid Receivers Are Coming!

https://www.radioworld.com/news-and...f_Kz_5YqIDcWIivh6FWXsdPRR8&M_BT=1066766009052

This system uses satellite for the download and internet for the upload but FM radio could be used just as easily and without the audible code stripping on Sirius/XM.

I have been posting for several years that these were coming. It will revolutionize radio commercial sales and, hopefully, help slow the redirection of ad money to online since the same metrics will then be available for radio ad buyers.

Specialized audio content will be downloaded during down times and will be ready for the morning commute with geo-specific ads which are also demo selected.

Seems like they want one receiver that'll receive both Sirius and Pandora, since they're both owned by the same company.

I guess the consumer's choice might be the box that can hear everything. Just a continuous list of audio choices. Most could care less how it gets there.

The ad buyers will definitely like geo/demo specific ad targeting (assuming GPS or cellular triangulation is used to locate receiver.)

If so, this box doesn't do that. It's primarily for Sirius subscription holders only. Sirius has no motivation to offer Spotify or FM.

True. This is not the box I envision becoming the future audio appliance. I do see an appliance developed for the car, similar to the smart speakers many now have in their homes, that will tune to anything that creates or transmits sound.

It's this. Next year many new vehicles will feature a radio that automatically switches between SXM satellite, SXM-streams and Pandora.

It's a "partnership"...

Nudge nudge, wink wink. Just like the Sirius takeover of XM was a "merger," or like receivers sitting in unsold vehicles on dealer lots are "subscribers." Amazing just how much wool can be pulled over regulators' -- and investors' -- eyes, isn't it?

"Say no more!" :)
