Connossieur Media CT Cuts

You probably know that radio revenue is low, due to advertisers not being open for business, &, therefore, not spending ad dollars.

As of Friday, May 15th, Connossieur Media CT has cut 14 employees, including WPLR's heritage, legendary John "Wigmaster" Griffin (IMHO, one of the nicest guys & one of the best PD's I ever worked for) & the talented, gifted host from 7-12mid, Ryan Roberts (one of the most unique-sounding personalities I've ever heard).

Also, WICC's Tony Reno.

Entercom & TownSquare Media are doing the same.

Wow! Wigmaster's been with PLR forever! Just goes to show you that ratings really don't mean much when advertisers aren't buying time and so many people are either out of work or working from home, slashing the in-car drive-time audience. We'll see how the reopening of retail in the state affects advertising in the coming weeks.

Will people be scared to go out and shop? Maybe the recent "Oops, never mind" statement from the Centers for Disease Control will help: After months of dire warnings about the dangers of contracting the virus after touching railings, doorknobs, cars, etc., now it turns out that is not a significant transmission cause; it's those droplets in the air that are responsible for most of the cases. Gee, thanks, CDC!

What do you think about Wiggy going to work part-time for 102.9 The Whale? I know he lives in the New Haven area & probably wouldn't want to drive to Bloomfield each weekday, but, he might be able to do a remote "Wigout Friday" like he's done for decades. He could even do live Wigouts at bars/restaurants once they back up. A great way for The Whale to promote itself, &, I'm sure Wiggy has a following in both New Haven & Hartford that listeners from both 'PLR & 'DRC would want to go see him. It might even give 'PLR a little competition from the North. "CT's Classic Rock vs. CT's Number One Rock Station".
