why not wmid and wobm on a local hd sub

Why doesn't WMID and/or WOBM put their signals on one of the many unused HD subs and bring oldies and local advertisers in. I know of many subs including rims WKXW and WJBR plus all the locals, so whats stopping them, it cannot be that expensive and they will definitely benefit with increased coverage, Its not FCC rules WOLD is a prime example. I know Gary can afford it, he added 93.1 in the Woods.

IF it made economic sense, someone would have done it already. It doesn't. It's a format with target demos outside the prime money range, on a signal (HD) that the VAST majority of people doesn't know exists, doesn't care about, or doesn't have a tuner to listen to it. If HD was viable to get listeners, you would see HD stations pop up in the ratings. Only ONE station (WRFF-HD2) has popped in, and that was at a 0.1 share.

IF anyone were to do it, it would be someone with deep pockets who doesn't care about the return on their investment. So... no one.

And those 0.1 stations are usually the product of "if you are subscribed and get just one quarter hour from one panelist in the week, you get a 0.1 without further qualification."

It can be very expensive.. could likely require a new transmitter and new antenna....... and then theres the licensing costs. that right there sinks it... putting an AM statiopns format on an already existing fm station you own costs you almost NOTHING.

youre comparing apples to oranges and clearly don't have a true understanding of how this all works or what it costs.

I'm really confused about why an oldies AM station in Atlantic City would want to bring their local advertisers to an HD subchannel in Philly.

... particularly since Atlantic City is a classic "dollar a holler" low spot rate market.

The original premise is a bizarre and pointless concept.

Based on the bizarre conceit that the popular music of 1955 through 1972 is, without question, the greatest popular music ever recorded and must be made available via radio forever, or at least for as long as just one person who heard the music during those years remains alive, and that all popular music made before or after those years was and is complete garbage.

Danny & The Juniors:

"Rock 'n roll is here to stay, It will never die It was meant to be that way, Though I don't know why I don't care what people say, Rock 'n roll is here to stay (We don't care what people say, Rock 'n roll is here to stay) Rock 'n roll will always be Our ticket to the end It'll go down in history, Just you watch..."

The music was pounded into their heads and brainwashed them.

Wasn't that the follow up to "At the Hop"? We don't have hops any more, unless you are talking about craft beers.

"For everything there is a season, turn, turn, turn".

That season is about over.

Well stated. And "bizarre" is a good adjective.

Many of us liked/loved/died for that music. Back then. But we may occasionally like to hear a song or two, but not constantly, incessantly and exclusively.

There is a fuzzy border between "obsession" and "insanity".
