104.9 oldies live?

Sounds like the oldies station out of Lafollette good time 1049 is live in mornings, mid-days, and afternoons. Are they local or syndicated? They sound local but these days its hard to be sure.

I don't think they are syndicated, but not likely live in real time either. I think one of them worked for 1180 at one time.

Alan Diskin and J.J. Jefferies to the best of my knowledge are live. The rest automation. Other than too much stepping on the music sometimes, a station I love.

Well enjoy it while you can. WTNQ (along with WJRV) just got bought by the guy who put on the automated Mid-Century oldies. If they change 104.9's format, I think I'll pretty much be done with FM radio. It's pretty much the only station I enjoy since WNOX changed and 105.7 The Hog is still being blocked illegally by WKGN.

How exactly is WKGN 'illegally' blocking "The Hog"? Are they not FCC licensed? At a site not on the station license? Overpowering? How do you know?

No, not illegally. They have an actual license for that translator, and WIHG is not licensed to serve Knoxville, nor is Knoxville in its primary coverage area. The FCC isn't even mitigating any interference complaints in outlying areas anymore. I said at the beginning, "rimshots hardest hit"

So not illegal, and the FCC not likely to even give the complainers the time of day.

Does WIHG sell Knoxville to its advertisers as part of its coverage area or attract business from Knoxville advertisers looking to reach both Knoxville and its primary coverage area? Would evidence of negative bottom-line impact at WIHG prompt a second look in Washington?

I don't recall hearing any Knoxville-specific advertisers on there but the Oak Ridge car dealerships were on there frequently.

I did not intend on digging up this WIHG issue to hijack this WTNQ thread. I just mentioned it to convey the lack of good choices on FM today.

I listen to WKCE also sometimes on the AM, I'd be OK with it on FM. I know you don't care for it.

I never said I don’t care for WKCE. I just was hoping it didn’t replace WTNQ. Looking at Loud Media’s portfolio of stations, it looks like they have some interesting ones so that’s encouraging. We’ll see what happens here.
