L.A. TV Field reporters- 'mic flags' removed during protest coverage

L.A. TV Field reporters- 'mic flags' removed during protest coverage, all stations ... I'd rather not speculate here but does anyone know why?

Could this be because they are pool mikes?

No, everyone has their own reporters in LA. I'm thinking they're trying not to attract more attention than one does holding a mic, speaking into a professional camera, durrounded by a crew. If it was me, that's what I would do. There are some interesting people out on the street.

The only pool reporter I saw was with the president last night as he walked across the park to the church. That was a "tight pool."

I asked one of the LA TV street reporters who is a friend. Maybe I will get an answer.

I wonder, though, if I might get, "well, the other teams were doing it and we thought maybe they knew something we did not know..."

I had a reporter friend of mine get beat up during the Rodney King riot. Back then, you didn't have cell phones. So he was reporting at a PacBell pay phone, and in mid-report, a group of guys came over and beat him up.

This article had the names of reporters who worked at KNX and KFWB during the time of the Rodney King Riots. They seem to report multiple people getting assaulted during the riots.

Yes they were the worst events of that era. But that it now overshadowed by multiple reports of Police Brutality across the nation though.

Los Angeles is a city where Stringer where groups like Loudlabs, Onscene and RMG News provides protest video and Police Brutality video to Los Angeles TV stations, AP and Reuters. This might be a factor why some members of the press do not have mic flags or use their own staff members for safety reasons.

Maybe for local TV, but I didn't see flags on CNN, Fox, or other network mics. They are net employees not stringers.
