B-Day 99.1 is back

Just curiosity. The last time I was near Meridian (in Newton, in fact) was very early 60's and they pronounced it, sort of, "M'ridgin". Is that normal, or still sort of the way it is said?

I've always pronounced it the way it is spelled, but I've heard the alternate pronunciation. I guess it depends on what part of East Mississippi you are from :)

Newton, Ms? You weren't working with Larry Fuss, were you?

Never pronounced it that way. If so, our TOH for the translator has been wrong.

WMOX is working on it. They won't be going away.

There is another issue. I looked at the public files a few weeks agO and nothing was loaded in the quarterly issues. The FCC is holding up renewals for that too. The specifically gave a deadline back in 2018.

In my hometown both AMs are done. At my current location (Meridian) One station has been deleted, one has not filed a renewal (due June 1st), and another (outside Meridian) has been on a STA for 6 years. They sign it on the air every six months for one day on a picnic table, generator and a long wire to keep the license active.

The others are strictly are a placeholder for their FM translators. They sign it on the air every six months for one day on a picnic table, generator and a long wire to keep the license active.

At location #2 (Monroeville) all AM's have been turned in or deleted.

....and so it goes.

The STA is WQMS, correct? I believe this is an example of the need to "pee or get off the pot."

Which station in Meridian hasn't filed for renewal?

How many high schools are there in Meridian, anyway? I find it hard to believe that with as many stations as they have there, that there is someone left out. I lived in rural Mississippi for years, and even the non-comm religious stations had HS football on at night. If they have a booster group, they can pay to get the games aired if they wanted to.

Including private schools, there are a total of seven high schools in Meridian and Lauderdale County. Last football season, two had any kind of radio coverage that I'm aware of (Meridian High School and West Lauderdale). Lamar (one of the private schools) has had coverage in the past but I'm not sure if they did last year. As has already been pointed out, none of the other stations would step up to provide coverage for the other schools because they couldn't justify the cost. Well, that's the official reason anyway. I would speculate it was more "political" than anything.

With respect, if you don't know the flavor of the Kool-Aid, it's best not to drink it. In other words: If you don't know what you're talking about, refrain from speaking.
