Cnn abandons pandemic

Cnn has a new agenda and for the most part they have given up reporting on the pandemic. Instead total focus on the Minneapolis murder story. Atleast this evening with Don Lemon. Talk about pandering.

It's embarrassingly over the top, and I'm saying this as a liberal. But I'm not African American, and that apparently renders my (and, I suspect, your) opinion immaterial at best, ignorant at worst.

Fair point but still cnn has a clear agenda that doesn’t resemble important news. 45 million out of work due to covid19 but the headline is Minneapolis.

I don't think it's just CNN. Fox gave up on the pandemic a month ago. MSNBC does short segments, or talks about the protests in the context of people wearing masks.

But this is what the newschannels have become. They over one story over and over. It's been that way for a while.

And when the protest story goes away, they'll come up with another story.

OK, sure. I graduated with a communications degree from a major college. I also had the opportunity to work in media for 35+ years. I don't understand how important news gets discarded over more "flash" news. Oh, wait...I actually do. But it doesn't make it right. But this is an argument for the ages, and one that traditionalists will never win. Sigh.

The hard part is to try and do this one story in an entertaining way, and there isn't one.

Put in the context of everything else, it's no wonder people are getting depressed. No sports, no live music, no bars or restaurants, and a lot of yelling.

Not ABC. They still are running 'Pandemic: What You Need to Know' weekdays at 1 ET/12 PT.
I think these protests are the ultimate tests of whether COVID is still running through the population. Deaths are down nearly everywhere now, even NY is down below 50 deaths a day. Only ONE person in that controversial Lake of the Ozarks Memorial Day pool party tested positive. There are no other cases. One case out of 100s of partygoers.
If we don't see a big surge in 7-10 days in many different states, then the virus is exiting stage left.

No sports, no live music, no bars or restaurants, and a lot of yelling.

Restaurants are open in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County and yet only takeout in Seattle. But the phase 1.5 would put 50% outdoor and 25% indoor dining into play. They'll just go to Kitsap and Thurston where its at 50% phase 2 cap now...

I tend to think the danger is lessening as well, but who can you believe? I don't trust the media these days. I wonder how much of this is left wing hype to make everyone scared vs. the actual threat. I don't know, I think there was a definite threat a couple months ago, but the scare tactics today may be over the top. Believe me, I am no expert on this, and if the virus pops up again, then I will be the first to say I am wrong. But to destroy an economy over this is very hard to take. Some say it is the dems trying get rid of Trump, and I am beginning to wonder about that, though it still seems far-fetched. Unless I am too gullible. Sorry, didn't mean to turn this political.

The antibody tests are proving that we may have needed to take a good look at this way back in the year 2019...

https://mynorthwest.com/1875726/report-antibody-test-coronavirus-washington-december/?

Two residents in Snohomish County tested positive for antibodies that had been in their bodies since December. And I've seen plenty of social media comments saying "I got very sick in January", or December, or February... - the question is, was this lockdown wave THE 2nd wave? Was there a weak 1st wave that went unnoticed? Of course the president got rid of the pandemic response team in 2018, so we didn't have a lot of warning sadly. That's a political argument that I will not get into.
I'm becoming more likely that COVID had been spreading through large events in Dec/Jan/Feb. 1,500,000 people packed like sardines to watch the Times Square ball drop - 60,000 watching the Super Bowl - likely 100,000+ attending the Daytona 500! Perhaps just mild symptoms, but who knows.
I admit, even I bought too much food during the panic-buying phase, when the sports leagues suspended. It was crazy that weekend (3/13-15). Constant lineups at the grocery store, 4-6 people per line, every line open. Average total $300-400. One guy bought $900 in 3 carts for him and his neighbors. A lot of us were convinced that 2,000,000 were going to die.

If only it would have stayed in Wuhan and died in Wuhan. Imagine a normal world in June 2020. Only that CNN would be all over the election and Trump and Biden would be going after each other in duel rallies.
The problem is - will the people take another near-lockdown if another wave sparks up in the fall or early winter? I doubt it. Mental health and jobs have been destroyed. I don't think the average small business owner needs to lose more money in what could be the holiday season. But I can't predict the future. It can only get better, right? :)

It may get worse. Fear of lawsuits is causing one small business owner to call it quits, even though it is being allowed to reopen. Morano Gelato, which serves the Boston College and Dartmouth College communities in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, announced its decision in a lengthy statement that wrapped up with this:

The new COVID-19 safety requirements of businesses to operate in this “new normal” we are in will require additional capital from already strained businesses to purchase new equipment, create new safety operational manuals, and employ safety and cleaning protocols regularly (or pay a service provider to do this). This now leaves these businesses vulnerable to lawsuit liabilities - from consumers and employees to the all-so-fun passerby who wants to simply blow their whistle.

There's nothing special about a "second wave". Supposing you're right, and this has been the "second wave", a "third wave" would still be somewhere between possible and likely in the coming months.

However, the epidemiology works for an initial introduction of COVID19 into certain states in the last week or two of 2019, building into the wave that we began to detect in mid-February.

Suppose just one contagious person came to the Seattle area from Wuhan around Christmas. That person would be expected to account for about 80 infections by the middle of January, and 5,000 infections by the end of February, assuming no mitigations. Essentially none of those patients would have been eligible for a test at that time, on account of not traveling outside of the United States.

But Fox News is covering the Obamagate hearings LOL. Those are supposed to convince everyone that Obama was corrupt and Donald Trump is Mr. Perfection, and lead to his overwhelming re-election once America learns "the truth". I've got some land available by the gallon true.

They have a massive vault of soaps. Classic All My Children M-T-W and classic OLTL Th-F would be nice. I know, I'm dreaming. But I know a lot of soap fans miss seeing Susan Lucci every day. CBS is showing classic Y&Rs, some going back to the early 1980s.

Perhaps re-air some of the Alec Baldwin-hosted Match Game episodes over the summer? Celebrity Feud reruns would be another idea but I imagine in some markets that it would be competing against the regular syndicated Feud episodes.

Newsy coverage of COVID-19 has been less now into Outrage In America covering the protest nationwide. I think COVID-19 everyone was over it by now the media wanted to move on from it I think soon the media will be over the protest even if that keeps going as the media likes to move on to new things fast.

Whatever they can do to defeat Trump. Don’t get me wrong, I hope they succeed. Welcome to political reality in 2020.
